Usher has officially started his Past Present Future Tour, and fans couldn’t be more excited!
This week, the eight-time Grammy winner began the tour with two sold-out concerts on Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, D.C., at the Capital One Arena.
The shows were full of energy, great music, and some surprise guests that made the nights even more special.
A Bump in the Road: Usher’s Neck Injury
Before the tour began, Usher faced a challenge that worried many of his fans.
While preparing for the shows, Usher hurt his neck, which forced him to postpone the first few concerts.
Originally, he was supposed to kick off the tour in Atlanta on August 14, but his injury meant he had to miss those dates.
Usher shared the news with his fans on social media, explaining that despite undergoing physical therapy and medical treatment, his neck wasn’t healing fast enough.
His doctors advised him not to perform until he was fully recovered.
Good News for Atlanta Fans
Although the Atlanta shows were postponed, Usher has already set new dates for these concerts.
Fans in Atlanta can look forward to seeing him perform at the State Farm Arena on December 9, 10, and 12.
Usher has promised to bring his best to these rescheduled performances, making up for the delay.
A Spectacular Start in Washington D.C.
When Usher finally took the stage in Washington, D.C., it was clear that the wait was worth it.
The two-hour-long shows were packed with some of his biggest hits, including “Lovers and Friends,” “Confessions,” “Yeah!,” and “U Don’t Have To Call.”
Usher also performed songs from his latest album, Coming Home, which came out earlier this year in February.
Fans were thrilled to hear both the classic hits and the new tracks.
Special Guests Light Up the Stage
One of the highlights of the Washington, D.C. shows was the appearance of some special guests.
Usher was joined on stage by local music stars like Wale, Raheem DeVaughn, and Sugar Bear of EU.
These collaborations added a unique touch to the concerts. Usher and Wale performed their popular songs “No Hands” and “The Matrimony.”
He also sang “You” with DeVaughn and “Da’ Butt” with Sugar Bear, creating unforgettable moments for the audience.
A Visual Feast for the Eyes
Usher didn’t just deliver great music—he also gave fans a stunning visual experience.
The stage featured an incredible cube made of LED screens that could show different images and videos.
This cube wasn’t just a backdrop; it was a huge set-piece that transformed into different settings, like a penthouse, a room in a house, a strip club, or a dance floor.
The visuals added depth to the performance, keeping the audience engaged throughout the show.
Usher’s Impressive Comeback
Even though Usher had recently suffered a neck injury, you wouldn’t have known it by watching him on stage.
He moved with energy and confidence, showing no signs of discomfort.
According to a review by Variety’s Shaheem Reid, Usher looked like he was in top physical shape, and he delivered a performance that left everyone impressed.
It was evident that Usher was fully committed to giving his fans the best experience possible.
What’s Next for Usher?
Usher isn’t slowing down anytime soon. His next concerts are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore.
After that, he’ll be traveling to cities across North America, including Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, New York City, Detroit, Denver, and Los Angeles.
The North American leg of the tour will end with the rescheduled Atlanta shows in December.
Usher’s European Tour
But the tour doesn’t end there! Usher will be heading to Europe next year, starting with a series of concerts in London at The O2 Arena on March 29.
He has eight nights planned in London before moving on to cities like Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
He’ll wrap up the European leg of the tour back in London in May 2024.
In addition to his busy tour schedule, Usher has also been involved in other exciting projects this year.
He headlined the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show in Las Vegas, where he performed alongside big names like Alicia Keys, will.i.am, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris, and H.E.R.
