In a delightful surprise for music lovers, rapper-singer Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), put on a special show in downtown Nashville on Tuesday, September 24.
The free concert at the Skydeck on Broadway drew eager fans who lined up early in the pouring rain, hoping to catch a glimpse of the star.
MGK’s visit to Nashville wasn’t just for kicks; he was in town to prepare for the upcoming People’s Choice Country Awards on Thursday night.
Little did the crowd know that the excitement was about to escalate.
As MGK took to the stage, he playfully called out, “I’m gonna need some help. Is my friend Lainey Wilson in here?”
This prompted a thunderous cheer from the enthusiastic crowd.
As the energy in the packed venue reached a fever pitch, MGK paused his set to welcome Lainey Wilson.
The CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year took her place in the spotlight, and together they performed “Lonely Road,” a duet that MGK released with Jelly Roll earlier in the summer.
The song, which pays homage to Denver’s classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” had previously been accompanied by a music video, featuring both MGK’s and Jelly Roll’s significant others, Megan Fox and Bunnie Xo.
Jelly Roll expressed his admiration for MGK’s artistry, stating that it was an honor to be part of such a hit and praising MGK for his exceptional talent as a songwriter and musician.
The choice of the song felt just right, especially since Wilson and Jelly Roll are labelmates.
During the performance, Wilson not only contributed her powerful background vocals but also took the lead on Jelly Roll’s verse.
The combination of MGK’s distinctive style and Wilson’s country charm created a captivating moment that left the crowd buzzing with excitement.

What made the night even more memorable was MGK’s generosity in sharing the limelight with Wilson.
It’s rare to see a headlining artist step back and allow another performer to take center stage, and this classy gesture truly stood out.
This spirit of collaboration mirrors Jelly Roll‘s earlier comments about learning from artists like Eric Church, who are known for their supportive approach to fellow musicians.
After their dynamic duet, MGK and Wilson shared a warm hug before she gracefully exited the stage, allowing MGK to carry on with his performance.
The camaraderie and respect between the two artists added to the magic of the evening.
Overall, the surprise collaboration between MGK and Lainey Wilson was a magical moment for all who attended.
It showcased their incredible talents and the power of music to bring different genres and artists together.
Nashville is known for its rich musical history, and this event was a shining example of how artists can support and uplift one another in the ever-evolving landscape of music.
With the People’s Choice Country Awards just around the corner, fans can only hope for more magical moments like this in the near future!
The 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards is set to be an electrifying event, featuring performances from two major music stars: Brad Paisley and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK).
This exciting news was confirmed in a recent press release ahead of the awards ceremony, which will air on Thursday, September 26.
While the specific songs they will perform remain under wraps, there is speculation that both artists might showcase new music during the show.
MGK, known for his blend of rap and rock, has been exploring the country genre more prominently in recent months.
He recently covered the Chicks’ “There’s Your Trouble” for Spotify Singles and gave a live performance of the track at the 2024 CMA Fest in Nashville.
Moreover, his collaboration with Jelly Roll on “Lonely Road,” a modern take on John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” has further solidified his presence in the country music scene.
Fans are curious to see if MGK will release a full country album, as he frequently makes appearances at country music events.
Brad Paisley and MGK will join a previously announced stellar lineup that includes notable names such as Miranda Lambert, Kane Brown, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A, and the War and Treaty.
Both Lambert and Brown are also set to receive special awards during the ceremony.
The People’s Choice Country Awards have also revealed a diverse group of presenters for the event, including Bailey Zimmerman, Scotty McCreery, Shaboozey, Ashley Cooke, Parker McCollum, Orville Peck, Chase Rice, Dasha, Tanner Adell, and Priscilla Block.
Additionally, popular figures such as wrestler Cody Rhodes, comedian Matt Rife, and Today show host Dylan Dreyer will be presenting awards during the ceremony.
