In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, death is rarely permanent. Some characters have a knack for escaping the grave, whether through time travel or magic. Alternate realities and sheer trickery also play a role.
From Loki’s endless resurrections to Vision’s multiple returns, these heroes and villains refuse to stay dead for long. Here’s a look at the MCU characters who keep dying. Only to make a surprising comeback.

The MCU’s Infinity Saga concluded with Avengers: Endgame, marking the end of key hero storylines, including Black Widow’s.
She sacrificed herself for the Soul Stone, helping defeat Thanos. Two years later, Black Widow returned in a stand-alone film set before Endgame, introducing her successor and exploring her past. However, it’s unlikely she’ll reappear in the MCU after her death.

The MCU first encountered the mystic arts through Doctor Strange. Under the Ancient One’s guidance, the title character developed into a formidable magician. In a conflict with her corrupted pupil, Kaecilius, the Ancient One suffered fatal wounds.
After giving Strange some last advice, she passed away. But for the Ancient One, death was not the end. She made a brief reappearance during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame. This made it possible for the Hulk to destroy Thanos by using the Time Stone from the past.

In the MCU, Vision has sadly passed away three times. In Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Scarlet Witch killed the Mind Stone to stop Thanos from stealing it, but Thanos turned back time and killed him once more.
This was his first death. In WandaVision (2021), he experiences a second resurrection; nonetheless, he perishes again as the Hex falls.

Known for being Monica Rambeau’s mother and Captain Marvel’s dearest friend, Maria Rambeau has passed away twice in the MCU.
First, as shown in WandaVision, she passed away from cancer during the Blip. Then, in Doctor Strange in the universe of Madness, Scarlet Witch killed a strong version of Maria, who in another world became Captain Marvel, highlighting her crucial position in the universe.

Thanos, the Mad Titan, has died multiple times across different realities. In Avengers: Endgame, Thor decapitated him after he destroyed the Infinity Stones. Iron Man’s snap later dusted a 2014 version. In What If…?, Ultron bisected him using the Infinity Stones.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a variant was shown dead. He was defeated by the Illuminati. His many deaths highlight his lasting impact as a feared MCU villain.

The Kree warlord Ronan the Accuser, who is entrusted with obtaining the Power Stone for Thanos, faces off against the heroes in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Years after Ronan was killed by the force of the Infinity Stone, he reappears in Captain Marvel. His brief cameo broadens his MCU plot by setting the scene for his alliance with Thanos and his position within the Kree Empire.

In order to exact revenge on Wakanda, Erik Killmonger, the antagonist of Black Panther, was revealed to be T’Challa’s exiled cousin. He had a tragic end in the film’s conclusion, where he was killed while pursuing his objective.
But he later came back to save Tony Stark in the MCU series What If…? Despite his death, Killmonger made a comeback in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in the Ancestral Plane.

Death is inevitable for Kang the Conqueror and his variations since they are caught in a vicious cycle of conquest and devastation. Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne appeared to beat the main Kang in Quantumania.
However, Kang’s destiny is undetermined due to his ability to manipulate time. Loki disclosed several Kang variant deaths, raising the total to about 27. When Kang reappears, more deaths are anticipated.

Gamora, killed by Thanos in Infinity War to secure the Soul Stone, later reappears in Endgame through time travel, where her past self is brought into the future.
Meanwhile, Loki faces multiple deaths, including being pruned and erased, before evolving into a protector of the timeline. These deaths make him one of the MCU’s most resilient characters.

The most lengthy death record in the MCU belongs to the God of Mischief, Loki. In Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Thanos killed him after he “died” in Thor (2011).
But an escaped 2012 Loki from Avengers: Endgame (2019) led to his adventures in Loki (2021), where he died several times before becoming the timeline’s guardian.

Daredevil and its Netflix series were initially part of the MCU timeline but were briefly excluded. With Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk, and Daredevil: Born Again, those stories are now officially in the MCU.
This retroactively includes Elektra, played by Élodie Yung, who has died twice but may return in Born Again.

Peggy Carter, a beloved MCU character, faces two significant deaths. In Captain America: Civil War, she passed away peacefully from old age, leaving Steve Rogers with bittersweet memories.
However, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, her Captain Carter variant met a violent end, gruesomely bisected by Wanda Maximoff during a battle, showcasing both time’s inevitability and the dangers of the multiverse.

Phil Coulson’s death in The Avengers united the team against Loki, but his resurrection through Kree technology in Agents of SHIELD marked the start of his repeated deaths.
Throughout the series, he is killed or presumed dead multiple times, only to return in various forms. Even his Life Model Decoy met its end, yet Coulson was revived in a new synthetic body, cementing his status as a persistent MCU character.

Despite only making an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ultron had a huge influence. He continuously improved his shape, dropping outmoded iterations as a self-replicating artificial intelligence.
The Avengers frequently destroyed Ultron’s drones, although Ultron himself destroyed a large number of them. Though his consciousness resurfaced in What if…? throughout the multiverse, Vision destroyed his last form.

Doctor Strange has faced death more than any MCU character. In Doctor Strange (2016), he trapped Dormammu in a time loop, dying countless times until Dormammu gave in.
In Multiverse of Madness, an alternate Strange was executed by the Illuminati, and two more variants perished. With his multiversal adventures, Strange will likely face even more deaths in the future.
Check out how Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to break records worldwide as it’s rewriting history with its box-office dominance and fan-favorite storytelling.

In Avengers: Endgame, Nebula, a cyborg, kills her past self to avoid a timeline paradox. However, her future self remains, suggesting that the paradox is resolved through a split timeline.
This action creates an alternate reality, allowing the events to unfold without causing catastrophic consequences, highlighting the complex nature of time travel within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
