Country star Luke Combs may be used to sold-out stadiums and chart-topping hits, but at home, he’s just “Dad.”
With two young sons, Tex 2 and Beau 1, Combs and his wife, Nicole, are focused on one major parenting goal: keeping their kids grounded.
Despite his high-profile career, Combs is doing everything he can to give his children a normal upbringing, and he’s not shy about admitting the challenges that come with raising kids in the spotlight.

At just two-and-a-half and one-and-a-half years old, Tex and Beau are still too young to understand their dad’s celebrity status.
But Luke Combs is already thinking ahead to the day they realize he’s not like the other parents at school drop-off.
“We don’t want them to be a product of their circumstances in a negative way, you know what I mean?” Combs shared during a candid conversation on the MeatEater podcast.
It’s a concern shared by many celebrity parents—how do you raise humble, well-adjusted children when their upbringing is anything but ordinary?
Combs didn’t mince words when discussing the darker side of growing up in a famous family.
“You see that all the time,” he said, referring to how fame and wealth can sometimes breed entitlement.
“It would be easier for them to fall into just being a complete dirtbag if left unchecked. It would be easier for them to [think], ‘Someone will come get my coffee when I’m done.’”
He even went so far as to say, “That would be easier for them to end up at than if your dad worked at a factory.”
And with his trademark humor, Combs summed it up by saying, “You’re closer to that finish line of being a scumbag, when you’re born into fame.”
Despite the privileges his children will undoubtedly experience, like traveling on private jets, Combs says he’s committed to giving them as “normal” a life as possible.
“My life is so normal outside of, like, when I’m playing shows,” he explained. “I’m basically in some ways like another form of a stay-at-home parent when I’m not on the road.”
Even when he’s on tour, Combs structures his schedule so he can be home more than half the week.
“Even when we’re touring the stadiums, I’m only gone three days a week. So I’m home four days a week, full time, sun up to sun down most days.”
Those days are packed with everyday dad duties: “Getting the kids up, changing diapers, doing baths, cooking dinners, cooking lunches, cooking breakfasts,” he said. “And that occupies a lot of my time, but that’s what I want.”
“I want my kids’ childhood to feel as normal as it can given the very strange circumstances that it will ultimately become.”
Luke Combs has made it clear that fatherhood has reshaped his priorities. He often turns down opportunities—ones he once dreamed of—so he can be more present for his sons.
Before taking the stage at the Tortuga Music Festival, Combs sat down with Rob + Holly to talk about fatherhood, music, and even their mutual love for the children’s show Bluey.
“The one where they move is like, pretty brutal,” Combs said about an episode that hit him emotionally.
As Holly joked, “If you watch too much, you feel like a bad parent,” not because of screen time but because cartoon dogs are sometimes better at parenting than real humans.
Looking back, Combs credits his own parents for shaping his grounded perspective.
“I think my parents let me, you know, try to do anything that I wanted to do,” he recalled on The Rob + Holly Show. “I don’t know if they didn’t do that, that I would be doing what I’m doing now, right?”
“They never were like, ‘you ought to be a doctor or an attorney,’ you know. They were always like, ‘if you’re gonna do something, do it and you’ll be great at it, and we’ll support you through it.’”
Now, as a father himself, he hopes to give his sons the same freedom and support. “I feel like for my kids, man, it’s like that’s all you want, right?”
Being a parent is never easy, but being a famous one comes with a unique set of challenges. Luke Combs isn’t just aware of those challenges, he’s facing them head-on. With honesty, humor, and a whole lot of heart, Combs is striving to raise grounded kids in an ungrounded world.
And if his words are anything to go by, he’s doing a pretty good job.
