Jack Lilley wasn’t just a stunt double; he became Melissa Gilbert’s trusted riding instructor during Little House‘s nine seasons. A rodeo champion and veteran of 100+ Westerns, Lilley performed stunts for Blazing Saddles (1974) and Bonanza.

His friendship with Gilbert endured decades; she shared in 2025 how he’d “patiently calm me when horses spooked.” Lilley also appeared onscreen as townspeople and coordinated livestock wrangling behind the scenes.”

He died at 91 in March 2025, leaving behind a legacy of mentoring young actors.

Robert Loggia – From Mobster to Pioneer

Robert Loggia played against type as abusive father Thomas Stark in Little House’s “The Bully Boys.” The Emmy-nominated for other roles, Loggia brought depth to Stark’s tragic descent.

The Walnut Grove set had a second life after Little House. As seen in 10 TV shows that shared the same sets, Hollywood often reuses locations. Star Trek borrowed The Andy Griffith Show’s Mayberry.

Loggia’s legendary career spanned 60 years. He starred in An Officer and a Gentleman, Big, and The Sopranos. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2010, he passed away in 2015 at age 85.

Dub Taylor – Blind School Advocate

Dub Taylor’s Houston Lamb helped Mary Ingalls adjust to blindness in Little House’s Season 6. A veteran character actor with over 200 credits, Taylor was known for gritty Westerns like The Wild Bunch.
