Country singer Joshua Ray Walker has been open about his battle with cancer, recently sharing that he had to undergo surgery as part of his treatment. Earlier this month, the talented musician revealed that doctors found tumors on his lungs, which changed his prognosis from what it had been before.
Despite the bad news, Walker is staying strong and keeping his fans informed through social media updates.
On September 20, Walker had surgery and later took to social media to let fans know that, while the surgery was tough, he made it through. He also thanked his fans, family, and friends for their overwhelming support during this challenging time.
“Breathing hurts, coughing hurts,” Walker admitted. “But I’m here, I’m awake, I’m alive, I made it through the surgery, and now we wait for the results.”
Joshua Ray Walker’s journey with cancer began earlier this year when he revealed his diagnosis of colon cancer. In January, he had his first surgery related to the condition, marking the beginning of his fight.
Sadly, the battle didn’t end there, as recent scans showed cancerous tumors on his lungs, complicating his health situation.
The tumors significantly shifted Walker’s outlook on survival. He’s been transparent about his diagnosis and the tough road ahead, choosing to focus on staying positive.
Even though the statistics and medical facts surrounding his situation are concerning, Walker refuses to give in to fear.
“Once I found out that the cancer had spread to my lungs, my chances of survival shifted,” Walker shared.
“But I’m not going to share those odds here. It feels like that would be giving up before I’ve even started fighting. I’ll let you know the numbers after I’ve beaten them.”
His fans have been rallying behind him since the day he shared the grim news, with outpourings of love, donations, and words of encouragement coming from all corners of the country. Through a GoFundMe campaign, fans have raised over $150,000 to help Walker cover his medical bills and day-to-day living expenses as he takes time off to focus on his health.
Walker’s most recent surgery involved deflating one of his lungs, sewing it back together, and then reflating it. Although this type of surgery is complex, Walker managed to come out of it ahead of schedule.
His doctors were pleased with his progress, and a drainage tube that had been helping his lungs heal was removed sooner than expected. As a result, Walker was able to return home earlier than anticipated.
Despite the discomfort, he remains optimistic and hopeful. He’s been clear that the next steps in his treatment will involve more challenges, with a six-week treatment period expected to follow.
However, it’s too early to know exactly what the next steps will be until his doctors have a full understanding of how successful the surgery was.
“This is the second surgery I’ve had to go through this year, and I’m grateful to have made it through,” he shared in a recent update.
“Now, we wait for the results and go from there. It’s not easy, but I’m surrounded by love, and that’s what’s keeping me going.”

For now, Walker is taking some time off from his musical career to focus on his health. Though he loves creating music, the priority has to be his recovery.
His last album, Thank You for Listening, was released in February 2023, and it’s clear that Walker’s music resonates deeply with fans. Even though he’s officially on hiatus, he hasn’t completely stopped making music.
In a recent video posted just before his surgery, Walker could be seen working on music, showing his dedication to his craft, even while facing such a significant personal challenge.
While he can’t promise new music in the near future, Walker’s fans are eagerly awaiting his recovery and hoping for more of the heartfelt tunes that have made him a standout in the country music scene.
Throughout his cancer journey, Walker has emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. In one of his updates, posted on September 15, he shared a personal reflection on what it means to fight cancer beyond just attending doctor’s appointments and following medical advice.
“Fighting cancer is more than just showing up to your doctor’s appointments,” he wrote in an emotional post.
“It’s about showing up for yourself every day. You have to stay positive, even when things seem grim. This battle is about mental strength just as much as physical.”
Despite the uncertainty of his diagnosis, Walker has remained strong and committed to beating the odds. His positivity and resilience have inspired countless fans, many of whom have shared their own stories of overcoming adversity in response to his updates.
His fans have also provided a steady source of encouragement, flooding his social media accounts with messages of hope and support. Walker has taken the time to respond to many of them, expressing his gratitude for the kindness and generosity he’s received since making his condition public.
“I’ve been truly blown away by the outpouring of love and support that you all have shown me,” he wrote on September 11, just one day after sharing the news about his lung tumors.
“Thank you so much for everything, and from the bottom of my heart, I love you all.”
In conclusion, Joshua Ray Walker’s journey is a testament to the power of hope, community, and resilience. While his battle with cancer is far from over, his determination to face it head-on has left an indelible mark on his fans.
Through his updates, Walker reminds us all of the importance of staying positive, leaning on loved ones, and fighting for ourselves in the face of life’s toughest challenges.
