If you’re a fan of country, then you’re surely familiar with Jeremy Parsons. His music and his style are pure country, some of the best the genre has to offer. Every time he puts out something new, it’s always a satisfying slice of country goodness that’s sure to impress. His latest single, “Tickin’,” is the latest single from the artist, so does it live up to his normal pedigree of quality?
Starting with the song’s general sound, it’s a lovely blend of Country and Americana vibes that work well to establish the general atmosphere. Jeremy Parsons’ style shines through in this single, really giving the single a grounded feel. Despite this, the song’s also induces a surprising amount of anxiety, that’s all to do with the general theme of the single.
“Tickin’” is a song that embodies the idea of looking back on your life and deciding if you’re in a good place. It’s a question everyone asks themselves in their lives, on top of the feeling of encroaching time which the single captures effortlessly. It’s a difficult topic to talk about, so we’re surprised that Jeremy does such a great job encapsulating the feeling within his music.
Musically, the song captures this through a steady beat that’s amusingly kept going by a grandfather clock. What really sells the idea however are Jeremy Parsons’ lyrics, which hit the nail on the head in terms of what the song’s trying to achieve. The songwriting on display is intelligent, thoughtful and overall quite impressive, and we’re happy to see it.
Jeremy’s delivery is also excellent stuff, imbuing the song with good amounts of emotion and introspection. His gravelly but sincere delivery sells the listener perfectly, and it’s a testament to his skill as a songwriter and a singer that he manages to make such a cohesive package. We’re big fans of the way the songwriting lines up so perfectly with the concepts of the song. The production here is also sparse and simple, not going overboard but still retaining a nice amount of polish. We enjoy how the song still retains a raw feel to it, that keeps it feeling sincere and personal. Overall, we honestly find “Tickin’” to be an impressively good single that absolutely lives up to Jeremy Parsons’ great backlog of music. There’s a lot to love here, and if you’re a fan of the genre, you owe it to yourself to check it out.– Jason Airy
