Country music artist Jelly Roll is proving that dedication and perseverance can lead to incredible transformations

This achievement is even more inspiring considering his starting point – Jelly Roll wasn’t always the picture of health.
But now, fueled by a desire for a healthier lifestyle, he’s set a new goal: another 5k by Thanksgiving.

The news about Jelly Roll completing the race and beginning his new journey has been circulating. However, was this a sudden decision? Certainly not.
It was a big step in his long fight to lose weight. For many years, Jelly Roll has struggled with his weight, facing both big successes and tough setbacks.
In 2015, Jelly Roll had a wake-up call. He weighed over 500 pounds, and even the doctor’s scale couldn’t measure his exact weight, which was quite embarrassing.
This was a clear sign that he needed to change. With incredible determination, he started his weight loss journey and lost an amazing 200 pounds.
But he lost track again. However, this didn’t stop him from wanting to be healthier.
In December 2022, he decided to focus on his health once more, and this time for the right reasons.
By March 2023, his social media posts showed he was back on track, talking about gym workouts, meditation, and eating healthy. Eventually, in 2024, Jelly Roll faced a new challenge – a 5K race.
In January 2024, the news of Jason Bradley DeFord, famously known as Jelly Roll, training for his first 5k race circulated.
With a determination to shed all those extra pounds and prioritize his “Family and Health”, Jelly Roll set on his new journey.
Jelly Roll exceeded his expectations, crossing the 2 Bears 5K finish line with his wife Bunnie XO on Tuesday during the Netflix Is A Joke comedy festival, hosted by Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer.
Not only this, during the training, he also lost around 50 pounds. An absolute achievement, no?!
The physical exertion was evident – Jelly Roll himself admitted to feeling “a little tired” afterward. However, this fatigue was overshadowed by a surge of accomplishment.
He said in his interview with Entertainment Tonight saying:
“I couldn’t walk a mile when I started trying to do this back in January.” Further continuing “So the fact that we got three-point-whatever it was done today, I feel really, really good about it. I left here feeling really motivated”
What really made him happy was how he inspired others and how happy he felt when people stopped just to tell him that they were motivated by Jelly Roll’s motivation!
He was really emotional as he crossed the finish line with teary eyes and what’s really cool is he got to show his super weight loss on the Red Carpet this year at ACM Awards 2024!
Moreover, the finish line wasn’t the end of the journey, it was merely a significant milestone.
Well, what we really love about our favorite country singer is that running his first 5k race and crossing the finish line wasn’t the end for him because he plans to run yet another race before Thanksgiving!
Jelly Roll has already started training for his next race as his wife, owner of Dumb Blonde Productions, posted a Tiktok video of Jelly Roll’s morning swimming workout.
This got us thinking that he’s training for something big again, in the Tiktok video he revealed his 5k race plan by saying:
“Morning exercise, baby. I’m going to make an announcement … you ready? 5K by Turkey Day, baby!”

“Next year, half marathon. We’re saying it right now”, he said. “I’m going to speak for them—we’re gonna do the 2 Bears 5K again, but we’re going to do a half marathon before.”
This decision wasn’t solely about aesthetics – Jelly Roll sought a healthier lifestyle for himself. The desire to shed weight and improve his overall well-being became a powerful driving force.
To conquer his first 5k, Jelly Roll dedicated himself to a rigorous training regimen.
This included a commitment to running, with a sample routine of 2-3 miles, tackled 4-6 days a week. But the journey wasn’t just about pounding the pavement.
Furthermore, he included swimming, sauna, and cold plunge every day.
A crucial part of his transformation was a shift in diet, embracing healthier eating habits to fuel his body for success.
However, the path wasn’t without hurdles. Negative comments from social media trolls regarding his weight became a challenge.
But Jelly Roll persevered, refusing to let negativity derail his progress.
