Lorelai and Luke are back on screen? Yes, it’s true, but don’t get your hopes too high because they reunited for just a 30-second commercial.
This short ad, however, was enough to transport us back to the serene and cozy setting of Connecticut. To find out more about the commercial, keep reading.

18 years after the original series wrapped in 2007, Gilmore Girls, starring Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson, made a comeback. They graced our screens as the iconic Lorelai Gilmore and Luke Danes.
The beloved duo is seen reuniting for a heartwarming holiday advertisement. This reunion is a rare and joyful moment.

The advertisement spans 30 seconds and is part of Walmart’s holiday marketing campaign. And it evoked nostalgia, allowing fans to reconnect with the characters they loved.
It included clever easter eggs linking back to the original TV series. The commercial follows a cozy and festive theme, with Walmart bringing two iconic characters back together while promoting its holiday products.

Set in the picturesque and fictional town of Stars Hollow, the commercial returns to the setting of Gilmore Girls. The same quaint streets, quirky characters, and cozy atmosphere are brought back to life.
Taking place in Luke’s iconic diner, where he and Lorelai share countless conversations and memorable times. The ad effortlessly transported the fans back to the 2000s. This familiar setting was the perfect backdrop for a memorable reunion.

Do you remember Kirk Gleason, played by Sean Gunn from Gilmore Girls? Well, he also made a surprise appearance in the ad, making the commercial making the commercial even more fun.
In the commercial, Kirk is seen delivering a package to Luke’s diner, transporting fans back to the show. The character’s presence added an extra layer of nostalgia, reminding viewers of the community that made Stars Hollow so special.

Of course, where there’s Luke, you’ll see Lorelai nearby. The moment Lorelai enters the room, her unmistakable quirkiness and signature energy accompany her.
Requesting her usual cup of coffee, Lorelai continues to stay loyal to her daily caffeine fix. Lorelai’s mannerisms and attitude were a testament to the fact that the character still hadn’t changed after all these years.

We all know Lorelai’s never-ending love for coffee, right? Walmart took full advantage of this trait by sneakily advertising their Keurig coffee maker. Instead of offering the usual cup of coffee, Luke gifts Lorelai a Keurig.
He jokingly comments how his wife, a.k.a Lorelai, is “drinking him out of business.” Viewers couldn’t help but smile at this scene, which instantly reminds them of Gilmore Girls.

If you were a sharp-eyed viewer, you would have noticed that both the characters were seen wearing engagement rings. This visual cue shows that Lorelai and Luke are still in love, just like the show lets on.
The original series was full of ups and downs in Luke and Lorelai’s relationship, but their love was undeniable. And this little detail showed how far they had come together, even if it was an advertisement.

Walmart knew the commercial had to be a dealbreaker, and it was. Why?
Because fans love nothing more than Gilmore Girls, the ad took them straight back to their era, including the cozy atmosphere and a snowed-in Stars Hollow. Platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok were full of fans and followers celebrating this 30-second return.

Graham commented about the ad in an interview with People, saying, “It’s always a little surreal [returning to Stars Hollow] because we were back where we’ve been so many times.” She explained how filming the ad was nostalgic to her.
Patterson also commented, sharing, “I’ve never worked with anybody with a better skill set, more grit, and just this incredible stamina among the other things that she brings with her humor and her kindness. It was just wonderful to see her and work with her again and Sean as well.”

During the commercial’s filming, Mae Whitman was also on set. For Lauren Graham, Mae’s presence added to the nostalgia factor, as she was also involved in the 2016 revival series.
Graham said, “It was a particularly odd day for me because there’s just so much familiarity with that character and seeing Scott and being in that place. And then Mae Whitman, my TV daughter from another universe, was there with her baby. It was just really, really fun and a great opportunity.”

When asked about any new series or episodes, Scott and Lauren clarified that the decision lies solely in the hands of the series creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. According to both the actors, if there’s someone who could create additional compelling episodes, it’s these two.
Patterson added, “I wouldn’t even venture a guess how they would do it or what it would look or feel like. But I’m sure it would be fantastic in every way.”

When asked about what the characters would be doing today, Lauren states, “What is most probable is that they’re exactly the same. I don’t think Lorelai left the country to find herself or anything.”
She said, “I think she is running an inn or maybe a second inn and hitting Luke’s up every day for her coffee unless she’s making it at home with the thoughtful gift you gave her for Christmas. That’s what I would want from where are they today is pretty much in the same place.”

Gilmore Girls, since its release in 2000, has garnered a huge fan following. According to Graham, the series is a classic, and that’s why viewers love to watch it.
It feels very timeless, and it wasn’t hip or trendy when we made it. AAnd it’s still kind of isn’t, but it’s just its own world. It’s also such a comforting place to visit.” adds Lauren.

The iconic series revival that was released in 2016 satiated fans’ hunger for more to a large extent. The 4-episode series follows Lorelai and Luke, who get married.
Rory, played by Alexis Bledel, on the other hand, ends up getting pregnant, but the father is not revealed in the series. Talking about sequels, did you know The Devil Wears Prada might get one?

The seven-season series is now also available on Hulu, just in time for the holidays. At the same time, the four-episode miniseries is only being streamed on Netflix.
