Country music star Cole Swindell is known for his soulful lyrics and catchy tunes. One of his most special songs is “Forever To Me.”
This heartfelt ballad is not just another hit; it’s a love letter in music form. Cole wrote this song for his wedding to his fiancée, Courtney Little, Miss Carolina, in 2017.
But the story behind the song is just as captivating as the lyrics themselves.
Forget the pressure of crafting a chart-topping hit; this song was born from a moment of pure inspiration, so powerful it even trumped the allure of a National Championship game.
Cole’s music often tells stories, but this song is extra special because it celebrates his own love life.
“Forever To Me” will be a cherished part of their wedding and their future together.
This article delves into the unexpected spark that ignited the song and the collaborative effort that brought it to life.
Cole Swindell, a famous country singer, got engaged to his girlfriend, Courtney Little, in May 2023. Their love story began on a farm north of Nashville, Tennessee.
This special place was where they had their first date during the video shoot for Cole’s song “Some Habits.” So, it was the perfect spot for his romantic proposal.
On that memorable Sunday evening, Cole got down on one knee and asked Courtney to marry him. She said yes! Cole was very happy and told PEOPLE:
“It’s hard to put into words how happy I am. She makes me better, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in all parts of my life.”
He proposed with a beautiful oval diamond ring. Planning the proposal wasn’t easy. Cole had to drive through heavy traffic in Nashville to pick up the ring.
He even asked Courtney’s father for permission to marry her, which made him very nervous.
Even though it rained all afternoon, the weather cleared just in time for Cole to propose. He led Courtney off the bus and onto the gravel road.
When she recognized the farm, she knew what was happening. They were both so excited and happy, making this moment a beautiful beginning to their future together.
“I put the ring on her finger, and we’ve been all smiles ever since,” Cole told PEOPLE.
The creation of “Forever to Me” started with a trip to Texas, and this trip will always play a special role in Cole Swindell and Courtney’s wedding memories!
Cole went to Texas with his friends and fellow songwriters Greylan James and Rocky Block.
“She gave her heart to Jesus, and He gave her to me” Forever to Me is out now. This one means a lot 🙏

They had three main goals: write new songs for Cole’s upcoming album, watch the National Championship football game, and enjoy making music together.
The night before the big game, Cole performed at a local venue. After the show, he and his friends gathered in their hotel room to work on a special song for his wedding to Courtney Little.
Even though Cole, being a singer had penned down not one, two or three love songs, but several ones, but when it comes to one’s own wedding song, it has to be PITCH PERFECT!
But the real struggle started when they had to put the emotions in the form of the song for Cole’s wedding song. They tried different ideas, but nothing felt quite right.
Late into the night, Cole quietly said:
“We were just talking, and somehow I ended up saying that Courtney, I was like, ‘She’s forever to me,'”
The turning point came when Cole Swindell, in a moment of reflection, said, “She’s forever to me,” about Courtney.
Those simple yet profound words sparked the creation of the song “Forever To Me.” Greylan James and Rocky Block immediately recognized the potential in that phrase and decided to build the song around it.
“Forever to Me.” Those words were perfect. They worked together to create a beautiful song with Courtney’s in mind.
The trio dove into a collaborative songwriting process. They brainstormed lyrics to capture the depth of Swindell’s feelings for Courtney.
Despite the looming National Championship game, they pressed on. The pressure of the clock only added to their determination. “I don’t care if I miss this game,” Swindell admitted.
Finally, as dawn broke, they completed the song. They knew it was perfect—a heartfelt tribute to Swindell’s love for Courtney.
The creation of “Forever To Me” had turned into a memorable experience, showcasing their dedication and passion for music.
Swindell was thrilled: “I remember telling people in the suite, ‘I just wrote one of my favorite songs; that’s probably going to be my wedding song.’ Pretty crazy, crazy story, but that’s how some of the favorite songs happen. You just got to be present.“
“Forever To Me,” with its deep lyrics, goes deep into Cole Swindell’s relationship with Courtney, painting a vivid picture of their journey toward everlasting love.
The song’s opening lines, “You ever seen a prayer in person? / Kind of thing that makes you believe,” shows Cole’s reflections on the moments that led him to Courtney, describing her as a divine answer to his prayers, a symbol of destiny fulfilled – And that’s a quite beautiful thing!
The lyrics beautifully capture Courtney’s sacrifices and contributions to their relationship. Lines like “She gave 18 summers to Carolina” and “Spent a few more wild and free” depict her dedication and adventurous spirit.
Swindell acknowledges her role in shaping their love story, emphasizing her commitment and their promises to each other.
The song’s emotional depth shines through in the chorus, where Swindell expresses gratitude for Courtney’s love.
He juxtaposes material gestures like giving her a diamond with the priceless gift of her devotion, symbolized by “forever.”
As the song goes on, Swindell talks about intimate moments from their journey, from proposing with anticipation to celebrating milestones with family.
Each verse is proof of their shared experiences and the foundation of trust and love they’ve built together.
In the final verses, Swindell pays homage to Courtney’s faith and family, showcasing the depth of their connection and the joyous anticipation of their future together.
“Forever To Me” encapsulates the essence of enduring love, celebrating Courtney’s profound impact on Swindell’s life and their shared journey toward forever.
Later on, Cole shared on Instagram a snippet of some memories with Courtney with the caption:
“Thank y’all for sharing your own love stories using #ForeverToMe… here’s ours.”
