Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck, the stars of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), are reuniting after nearly four decades for a new comedy titled The Best Is Yet To Come.
This marks their first on-screen appearance together since the classic teen film. Though longtime friends off-screen, fans haven’t seen them share scenes since the ’80s. Their new movie is not a sequel to Ferris Bueller, but a fresh story where they play best friends again.

The Best Is Yet To Come is based on a 2019 French film, Le meilleur reste à venir, which starred Fabrice Luchini and Patrick Bruel. The remake will be directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure, The Meg) and written by Allan Loeb (21, Here Comes the Boom).
The producer, Dimitri Rassam, also produced the original French film. Production is set to begin in summer 2025. Broderick and Ruck are in final talks for the lead roles and are expected to bring their classic spark to the new project.

In The Best Is Yet To Come, Matthew Broderick and Alan Ruck will play lifelong friends as stated. The story follows a mix-up where one friend mistakenly thinks the other is dying. This triggers a heartfelt road trip to reconnect with a long-lost son.
This new movie offers both humor and heart, pairing a funny misunderstanding with an emotional mission across the country.

The 2019 French movie Le meilleur reste à venir. That title means “The Best Is Yet to Come” in English. The original movie was a mix of comedy and drama.
It was written and directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière. It came out in France on December 4, 2019, and ran for 117 minutes. The story’s mix of laughs and heartfelt moments inspired this new American version.

In the original film, two childhood friends, Arthur and César, face a big misunderstanding. Each thinks the other only has a few months left to live. Instead of wasting time, they decide to enjoy life while they can.
They go on wild adventures and chase dreams they never finished. The more daring César helps quiet Arthur break free from his usual routine. The story highlights the importance of friendship, forgiveness, and making every moment count.

The main characters in the original movie were played by two well-known French actors. Fabrice Luchini played Arthur Dreyfus, and Patrick Bruel played César Montesiho.
Other important cast members included Zineb Triki as Randa Ameziane, Pascale Arbillot as Virginie, and Marie Narbonne as Julie.
Supporting roles were filled by Jean-Marie Winling, André Marcon, Thierry Godard, and Martina Garcia. Their performances helped the story feel real and emotional, combining humor and heart in a meaningful way.

The French version had a talented crew. The same two people, Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, both wrote and directed the film. Dimitri Rassam and Jérôme Seydoux produced it. Guillaume Schiffman handled the cinematography, while Jérôme Rebotier created the music.
Editing was done by Célia Lafitedupont and Sarah Ternat. Marie Cheminal designed the sets, and Anne Schotte worked on the costumes. Their teamwork brought the emotional and visual parts of the film together perfectly.

The French film had a production budget of around €13 million. While it didn’t become a global blockbuster, it still earned about $7.6 million at the worldwide box office.
The movie got a warm reception from both critics and audiences. Its positive reputation led to an English-language remake, bringing Ferris and Cameron back together in a new way.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was a big box office hit, earning over $70 million in the U.S. on just a $5–6 million budget. It ranked as the tenth highest-grossing movie of 1986, competing with films like Top Gun and Aliens.
Even though it never reached #1 at the box office, it stayed popular for weeks thanks to strong word-of-mouth. The movie’s success proved that a fun teen comedy could have an emotional meaning.

Matthew Broderick played Ferris Bueller, a confident, funny high school senior in the 1986 movie. Ferris fakes being sick to skip school, steals a Ferrari, and leads his friends on a wild day in Chicago.
He’s clever, talkative, and charming while often speaking directly to the audience. Broderick’s performance made Ferris a pop culture icon and helped define teen movies in the 1980s.

Alan Ruck’s character, Cameron Frye, was Ferris’s anxious and emotional best friend. He came from a strict home and was afraid of standing up for himself.
At first, Cameron didn’t want to skip school, but over the day, he learned to loosen up and take control of his life. His character’s growth, especially his showdown with his dad’s car, was a big part of the movie’s heart.

Critics praised Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for its heart and humorous performance. Roger Ebert gave it 3 out of 4 stars, calling it a “sweet, warm-hearted comedy.”
Richard Roeper said it was one of his all-time favorite films, with great replay value. Audiences loved it too, keeping its ratings high across review platforms.

Broderick’s career took off early with stage roles like Brighton Beach Memoirs, which won him a Tony Award. He starred in WarGames (1983), Glory (1989), and voiced adult Simba in The Lion King (1994).
His Broadway success continued with The Producers and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. On TV, he appeared in Modern Family, 30 Rock, and Only Murders in the Building.

Alan Ruck started with films like Bad Boys and Hard Knox. After Ferris Bueller, he acted in Young Guns II, Twister, and Speed. He found major success in the sitcom Spin City, playing Stuart for all 145 episodes.
He’s done voice work, theater, and played Leo Bloom in The Producers on Broadway, just like Broderick. His big comeback came in HBO’s Succession as Connor Roy.

From 2018 to 2023, Ruck starred as Connor Roy in HBO’s hit series Succession. He played the oddball oldest son in a powerful, broken family.
The role brought him award nominations, including an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Now, fans are excited about 15 exciting HBO series coming in 2025 that will bring more great stories.
It was his biggest part since Ferris Bueller. Now, fans are excited to see him back in a leading movie role again. His part in The Best Is Yet To Come will likely be just as powerful.

In 1987, Matthew Broderick was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing Ferris. Later, in 2014, the movie was chosen for the National Film Registry for being culturally and historically important.
The Online Film & Television Association even honored it in their Film Hall of Fame in 2021, and Ferris himself joined their Character Hall of Fame in 2024, much like a renowned songwriter joins the Country Music Hall of Fame.
