Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is calling on pop icon Taylor Swift to make her political voice heard once more.
While walking through Greenwich Village in New York City, Lemon shared his hope that Swift will endorse Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the lead-up to the next election.
Taylor Swift, one of the most influential celebrities on the planet with nearly 500 million followers across her social media accounts, has the power to shape public opinion.
Lemon believes that Swift’s endorsement could inspire younger voters to head to the polls and support Harris.
“Taylor Swift needs to step forward,” Lemon insisted. “She’s very influential. She can move an election. If she believes in women’s reproductive rights, a woman’s right to choose, and in democracy, I would say that Taylor Swift needs to come through. It would be a wasted opportunity if she does not use her platform for good.”

This isn’t the first time Taylor Swift has been called to the political stage.
Although she initially stayed quiet about her political views, she broke her silence during the 2018 midterms, endorsing Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper.
By 2020, Swift had become more outspoken, throwing her support behind Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, stating, “Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.”
Swift has also taken strong stances on issues such as LGBTQ rights and reproductive freedom.
She publicly criticized the GOP and vowed to “vote [him] out” ahead of the 2020 election after being “completely blindsided” by Trump’s 2016 victory.
She also condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, which ended the constitutional right to an abortion.
Despite keeping a lower profile on political matters recently, Swift’s fanbase, known as the “Swifties,” has already started rallying for Harris.
An X (formerly Twitter) account, “@Swifties4Kamala,” has gained traction, attracting over 76,000 followers.
At the Democratic National Committee convention in Chicago, the DNC even nodded to Swift by setting up stations where attendees could make friendship bracelets — a beloved tradition among Swifties at concerts.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s campaign is reportedly seeking Swift’s endorsement, hoping her influence will once again mobilize young voters.

Former President Donald Trump has also weighed in on Swift’s political influence.
In an interview, Trump questioned whether Swift’s liberal stance is genuine or just an act.
She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act?” he asked, expressing surprise that a country star could be successful while being openly liberal.
Just last month, Trump, 78, stirred up more controversy by sharing AI-created images on his Truth Social platform that portrayed Taylor Swift, 34, and her fans, the “Swifties,” as supporters of his campaign.
The posts seemed to suggest that Swift had aligned herself with Trump, even though her political stance has historically been quite the opposite.
Lemon’s call to Swift comes after his abrupt departure from CNN in April 2023.
The veteran journalist, who had been with the network for 17 years, was fired following a series of controversial remarks, including comments suggesting that Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was “past her prime.”
His statement sparked a backlash, leading to his ousting from the network.
Reflecting on his dismissal, Lemon expressed shock, saying, “After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought someone in management would have the decency to tell me directly.”
CNN offered no public explanation, but the incident remains a talking point in media circles.
As election season heats up, all eyes are on Taylor Swift. Will she use her massive platform to influence the 2024 race?
Or will she choose to remain on the sidelines, avoiding any potential fallout with her diverse fanbase?
For now, the ball is in her court, and as Lemon suggests, the clock is ticking.
