The Band Perry are the stars of this week’s chart roundup,
as they can add another radio #1 to the list with ‘DONE.’. Elsewhere they’re
not managing to break the monopoly on the top 10, however, falling one place to
#11 on Hot Country Songs and all the way to #21 on Country Digital Songs. ‘Pioneer’
rises 4 places to #7 on Top Country Albums. Florida Georgia Line naturally head
this aforementioned monopoly with ‘Cruise’, breaking record after record with their
run at #1 across Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs that continues
this week, with their album ‘Here’s To The Good Times’, also holding out at the
top. Their newest single ‘Round Here’ is at #12 on Country Airplay, #7 on Hot
Country Songs and Country Digital Songs, and their previous single ‘Get Your
Shine On’ is still performing, now at
#20 on Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs.

As if it were a surprise to anyone, the force that is
Florida Georgia Line remains at #1 on Hot Country Songs yet again this week
with ‘Cruise’(remix featuring Nelly). In addition, it remains at #1 on Country
Digital Songs too, while their latest single ‘Round Here’ is at #6 on the same
chart, #16 on Country Airplay and #8 on Hot Country Songs. Their album ‘Here’s
To The Good Times’ stays at #1. Could it become a possibility that they end up
holding both the #1 and #2 spots on the sales charts? Quite easily, in a couple
of weeks’ time.

Blake Shelton also stands in the running for the soundtrack
of the summer, ‘Boys Round Here’ (featuring Pistol Annies and friends) at #2 on
Country Digital Songs, but falling to #4 on Hot Country Songs, while his latest
single ‘Mine Would Be You’ not yet charting on Country Airplay top 25. In
contrast, Hunter Hayes is still rising with ‘I Want Crazy’, taking the #2 spot on
Hot Country Songs this week while he holds onto #3 on Country Digital Songs. He
stays at #6 on Country Airplay, and #4 on Top Country Albums with the ‘Encore’
edition of his self-titled debut album, which still lags behind Blake Shelton’s
‘Based On A True Story…’, standing strong at #2.

Hunter-Hayes-Hunter-Hayes-Encore-Deluxe-Version

With the release of Hunter Hayes’ ‘Encore’ edition of his
self-titled debut album (the deluxe edition in laymen’s terms), has rocketed
the country pop singer back to the top of Top Country Albums, while the lead
single off the record, ‘I Want Crazy’ is now at #3 on Hot Country Songs and
Country Digital Songs. If that wasn’t enough, it’s now also at #7 on Country
Airplay. Leading that chart is Jake Owen with ‘Anywhere With You’, which is
down to #8 on Hot Country Songs and #22 on Country Digital Songs.

#1 on Country Digital Songs is Florida Georgia Line, with ‘Cruise’
(featuring Nelly), that is also #1 on Hot Country Songs for yet another week. ‘Here’s
To the Good Times’ is at #2 on Top Country Albums. This duo seem unstoppable,
even by Blake Shelton, who remains at #2 on both charts this week with ‘Boys
Round Here’ (featuring Pistol Annies). The song has dropped down to #4 on
Country Airplay, however, after being last week’s #1. His album, ‘Based On A
True Story…’, also stays at #3 this week. Darius Rucker’s ‘Wagon Wheel’ is
holding out too, down to #4 on Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs
while ‘True Believers’ is at #4 on Top Country Albums.

Chart Roundup – Week of June 22nd, 2013

TMG_-_Highway_Dont_Care_cover

This week, the Billboard country charts have been more
static than usual. In fact, Hot Country Songs’ top 5 is exactly the same, highlighting the key players and their consistent
selling. As per usual Florida Georgia Line are at the top, ‘Cruise’ at #1 on
Hot Country Songs and #1 on Country Digital Songs. ‘Get Your Shine On’ is not
too far behind, at #9 on Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs, and their
third single ‘Round Here’ has begun its ascent on the Country Airplay top 30,
this week at #29. ‘Here’s To The Good Times’ has risen to #3 on Top Country
Albums once more.

Again, Blake Shelton’s ‘Boys Round Here’ (featuring Pistol
Annies and friends) is FGL’s strongest contender. At #2 on Hot Country Songs
and Country Airplay, and #3 on Country Digital Songs, the recent release of a
celebrity remix is bound to push the track to #1 next week. If that weren’t
enough, Blake’s latest album ‘Based On A True Story…’ holds onto the #1 spot on
Top Country Albums. Not too far behind him is Darius Rucker, whose album ‘True
Believers’ is at #2, while the big hit ‘Wagon Wheel’ remains at #3 on Hot
Country Songs, #6 on Country Airplay, and #4 on Country Digital Songs.

Florida Georgia Line continue their record-breaking ways, achieving
their 13th week at #1 on Hot Country Songs with ‘Cruise’ (featuring
Nelly). The hit track is also #1 on Country Digital Songs, while the duo’s
second single ‘Get Your Shine On’ drops to #5 on Country Airplay. However,
their 2012 album ‘Here’s To The Good Times’ moves up two places to #5. Darius
Rucker has held onto his #1 spot on Country Airplay for another week with ‘Wagon
Wheel’, moving up to #2 on Hot Country Songs and sticking to #3 on Country
Digital Songs. What’s more, his brand new album ‘True Believers’ comes into Top
Country Albums at a shiny #1, making this a very good week for the Grand Ole
Opry member.

Lady Antebellum’s ‘Goodbye Town’ Is Underwhelming & Forgettable – Review

Lady-antebellum-debuts-goodbye-town

When I first listened to ‘Golden’, Lady Antebellum’s new
album from which ‘Goodbye Town’ is the second single, I was significantly
underwhelmed. True, I prefer music with a bit more twang and grit than is
typically expected of Lady Antebellum, but I had enjoyed ‘Downtown’ and was
hoping for more sass from their fourth record. However, ‘Goodbye Town’
accurately reflects an album which has few stand-out tracks, this one in
particular not being one of them. I was surprised that this was to be the
single, therefore, and disappointed that they chose to release a bland,
predictable soft rock ballad over some of the more interesting songs on
‘Golden’.

It would probably be correct to assume that most of their
fans will lap up ‘Goodbye Town’, as it does much of what they have done before:
an atmosphere and guitar-led song about angsty love/heartbreak, with fairy
standard lyrics that every teenage girl can post in a picture on their Tumblr
with some romanticized imagery. In fact, much of the song musically reminds me
of a single from their first album, ‘I Run To You’. If Lady A were looking to
release a heartbreak ballad, they could have chosen ‘It Ain’t Pretty’, or if
they were looking for something fuller production but similar tempo, ‘Get To
Me’ is a fairly solid track.
