Blake Lively is no stranger to making headlines, but her latest controversy is straight out of a reality show.
A TikToker’s unexpected run-in with the actress at a Texas hotel has turned into a full-blown internet spectacle, and fans are divided.
Was it just a case of bad timing, or did Lively take things too far? Keep reading to find out!
It all started when TikToker Kaitlyn Marie Cooper (@kaleidwithkait) took a one-day vacation with her mom to Hotel 1928 in Waco, Texas.
The upscale hotel, owned by home renovation stars Chip and Joanna Gaines, was supposed to be a relaxing getaway—until they spotted Lively checking in.
Like many would in the age of social media, Cooper discreetly filmed the actress as she arrived with her team.
What happened next, however, was not what she expected.
Cooper claims that after their initial sighting, Lively’s security kept a close eye on her and her mom the next day. But things took a bizarre turn when they were leaving the hotel.
According to Cooper, as they approached their car, Lively herself walked up, said “hi,” and started recording them with her phone. She alleges that Lively’s security then circled their car, filming them, their faces, and even their license plate.
“It was the weirdest thing ever, the most bizarre thing to ever happen to me,” Cooper said in one of her now-viral TikTok videos.
Cooper didn’t think much of it until later when she noticed unusual activity on her Instagram Stories.
She claims that shortly after posting about the incident, Lively’s lawyer, social media manager, and even her nanny allegedly viewed her posts.
On top of that, several suspicious troll accounts with names referencing her trip started following her, including one that reportedly called her “fat.”
One possible reason for Lively’s reaction is her strong belief in privacy. She is especially protective of her four children, whom she shares with her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
Lively has frequently voiced her frustrations with paparazzi and has been clear that she does not want her children photographed.
Some speculate that her team may have monitored Cooper’s social media to ensure no images of her children had been posted.
However, Cooper’s claim that she was harassed online by Lively’s associates and anonymous accounts has left many questioning whether the response was justified or excessive.
At the end of the day, this situation raises bigger questions about celebrity privacy and fan boundaries.
Is it fair for people to film public figures in everyday settings, or should stars expect that as part of fame?
And more importantly, did Lively cross a line by allegedly retaliating?
One thing’s for sure—this saga isn’t dying down anytime soon.
As news of the encounter spread, social media users were quick to weigh in, with opinions sharply divided.
Some criticized Cooper for invading Lively’s privacy by filming her in the first place, while others condemned Lively’s alleged response as excessive.
“You and Blake are both weirdos,” one user commented. “You violated her privacy by being a stalker creep taking photos and videos of her, and she also was a looney and followed you taking a video. You’re both in the wrong.”
Others sided with Cooper, arguing that Lively’s actions were uncalled for.
“What happened to you is absolutely disgusting and uncalled for on so many levels! I hope you take this just as far as you can. She can’t expect people not to record her.”
Some also pointed fingers at The Hotel 1928, accusing staff of breaching guest privacy.
“@thehotel1928 looks like breaching privacy and confidentiality is a business of yours,” one person wrote. “Shame on you.”
This isn’t the only controversy Lively is dealing with.
She’s currently in the middle of a legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni, whom she accused of sexual harassment and orchestrating an online smear campaign against her.
With lawsuits flying back and forth, the case is set to go to trial in 2026. It was recently confirmed that she and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, will be skipping the 2025 Met Gala, an event where the actress has historically been a showstopper.
While rumors initially suggested their absence was related to Lively’s ongoing legal dispute with actor-director Justin Baldoni, sources close to the couple denied the connection. According to TMZ, a source closer to the celebrity couple revealed that this decision was made well before any of that.
Despite the growing online discourse, Lively has yet to address the hotel controversy publicly. Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate about the true nature of her run-in with Cooper—was it a justified reaction to an invasion of privacy or a case of over-the-top paranoia?
For now, the debate rages on.
