Country music icon Billy Ray Cyrus beamed with pride as he joined his son Braison for the 30-year-old’s debut at the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on July 6.
At 62, the senior Cyrus was overjoyed to share the prestigious stage with his son.
“Talk about a full-circle moment. Literally standing in the sacred circle with my son Braison Chance Cyrus by my side,” Billy Ray shared. “I have never been more proud.”
Braison’s Musical Journey
Braison, whose debut album “Javelina” was released in 2021, was equally thrilled about the experience.
“It was an honor performing with my dad at such a legendary venue,” he said.
Braison has been busy writing new music, which he recently revealed on Instagram, and this performance was a special milestone in his budding career.
“I love hanging out with my dad, riding dirt bikes and going on walks, but every now and again it’s great to hop on stage with him and do what we are both most passionate about and best at, which is playing music,” Braison added. “Playing on the Opry stage is surreal, especially getting to do it with my dad.”
A Band with Deep Roots
Joining the father-son duo on stage were band members who’ve played with Billy Ray for over three decades, including drummer Eddie Bayers.
Their performance opened with “Storm In The Heartland,” a poignant choice for Billy Ray.
“Eddie tragically lost his son in a motorcycle accident while we were making all that music. The fact we opened with ‘Storm In The Heartland,’ and there I stood with my son, it too was a full-circle moment,”
Billy Ray reflected. “I felt like Eddie’s boy was in the band. He was in the circle too — along with my dear friend and legendary producer Joe Scaife, who passed away last month.”
A Special Dressing Room Experience
The July 6 performance was also the first time Billy Ray had the chance to use Porter Wagoner’s dressing room at the Grand Ole Opry
“Porter was the first to really become my true friend from the Opry. Porter gave me the idea to wear those pants I had on,” Billy Ray reminisced.
“I made him a sparkly fishing vest, and we traded on television. He said, ‘Son, look at Dolly [Parton], she never leaves the house without looking like a star.’ Haha! True story.”
Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose’s Divorce
Billy Ray Cyrus is going through a rough patch as he deals with a messy divorce from Firerose.
The couple, who once seemed so happy, have now parted ways amid growing tension and public speculation.
While they’ve kept most of the details under wraps, it’s clear this has been a tough time for the country music star.
Despite the challenges, Billy Ray is staying strong by focusing on his family and music. Performing and spending time with his kids has been a source of comfort for him.
Braison’s New Musical Chapter
Earlier this month, Braison took to Instagram to share his excitement about his upcoming music.
“About a month ago, after going through some serious changes and growth in my life, I started writing songs for myself again,” he wrote.
“This new album is for me and is the closest thing I’ve ever done to what I originally set out to do when I decided to make music my life and my career back in 2017,” Braison continued.
The Grand Ole Opry debut was a touching and memorable moment for both Billy Ray and Braison, highlighting the deep bond between father and son and their shared passion for music.
