FX’s The Bear continues to impress with its powerful story about a young chef who returns to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop after a heartbreaking loss. The show has struck a chord with audiences, securing its place among AFI’s top TV honorees.
Also earning a spot is Shōgun, a gripping historical drama set in 1600s Japan. Lord Yoshii Toranaga’s battle for survival intensifies as he faces off against enemies on the Council of Regents, while a mysterious European ship is discovered, setting the stage for an epic clash.

ABC’s Abbott Elementary and Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith are both honored on the AFI TV list. Abbott Elementary stands out for its heart and humor, portraying dedicated teachers in a struggling Philadelphia school.

This year’s AFI Awards didn’t include several big Oscar contenders, including Paramount’s Gladiator II, September 5, and Better Man. Also missing from the list were Apple Original Films’ Blitz and Netflix’s The Piano Lesson and Maria.
Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers also failed to make the AFI cut, sparking speculation about its Oscar chances. These omissions have left many wondering about the films’ prospects in the upcoming awards season.
