TIPS FOR GROWING CANNABIS ON YOUR OWN

One of the most common mistakes new growers make is not using the proper medium for their plants. Instead, they purchase low-quality grow mediums that have been sitting in the basement for years. Moreover, new growers should look for discount cannabis seeds offered only from a trusted source.

Plants bury their roots in the soil and drink the moisture from the ground. To avoid this problem, it’s recommended that you purchase at least 1.5 times more soil than you plan on using. Here are some other tips to ensure your success.

Hydroponics

Achieving successful hydroponics requires a permanent supply of dissolved oxygen. This is a critical element for DWC systems. To get an adequate supply of dissolved oxygen, you need to purchase an air pump, which costs about EUR20-50 at your local grow shop. Another crucial component of your hydroponic cannabis system is the water pump. This small, blue golf-ball-sized stone is used to circulate nutrients within the reservoir. It can be purchased online, or purchased from a local grow shop. The pumps are relatively inexpensive, and it is a good idea to purchase extras just in case something goes wrong.

Soil mix

One of the most crucial parts of growing cannabis is having the proper soil mix. Having a perfect soil mix is essential to unlock the genetic potential of your cannabis strains. A good soil mix should contain a combination of organic nutrients and amendments that are easily available. A good soil mix includes a base soil, which serves as the growing medium early in the life cycle, and a super soil, which provides additional nutrients and helps the plants reach harvest time.

Reverse osmosis water

Reverse osmosis water is water that has been treated to remove 95 to 99% of impurities. It is created by forcing water through a semipermeable membrane under high pressure. As the water passes through, it leaves the contaminants on the other side. This process is a bit expensive, since it requires six litres of water to create one litre of reverse osmosis water. But for small growers, this process can be the perfect option.

Carbon filters

If you are growing cannabis on your own, carbon filters are a good choice. These filters do not need to be replaced often and are sealed, which makes them easy to maintain. You can create a carbon filter using aluminum screens and chicken wire, then attach it to the exhaust fan using a PVC adaptor. Once installed, you can adjust its height and attach it to the ventilation system. For an ideal environment, you should hang your cannabis carbon filter as high as possible. You may also need to purchase a section of aluminum hose to attach it to the exhaust fan.

Overfeeding

Overfeeding plants can stunt their growth. If you notice a white or yellow crust forming on the soil, your plants have probably overfed themselves. Overfeeding causes nutrient burn and can cause salts and minerals to accumulate in the soil, which will prevent the roots from absorbing the necessary nutrients. To correct this problem, you can try flooding the container and leaching the soil, or you can avoid fertilizer for a couple of weeks.

Overwatering

Overwatering when growing cannabis on your own can kill your plants easily. Many new growers do not realize how damaging overwatering can be. Watering a plant is a very emotional act for most gardeners, and most people reach for the watering can to feel a connection to their plants. However, watering a cannabis plant too much can lead to the plant’s death, resulting in a rotted root system and weak, sick-looking roots.

Avoiding pests

The most important step in avoiding pests when growing cannabis on your own is ensuring proper workflow. Pests can contaminate other areas of your garden. When possible, you should only enter contaminated areas of your garden at the end of the day. Do not walk through areas where pests do not reside. Use sticky traps to catch the pests. When using insecticides, make sure to use a solution that will be effective against the pests that are already there.
