Well shoot. Sad news out of Nashville today. Naomi Judd, 76, the mom half of the popular mother-daughter duo The Judds has passed away.
MSN.com reports that the Judd daughters, Wynonna and actress Ashley Judd announced the news earlier today, April 30.
“Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness,” the statement said. “We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.” The statement did not elaborate further.
The news is extra sad due to the fact that the pair were making a comeback of sorts after having quit performing together in the 90s due to Naomi’s Hepatitis C diagnosis. The mother-daughter duo had performed just this month on the CMT Awards and were set to hit the road on a new tour this summer.
No memorial or funeral arrangements have been announced.
