Although the end of the 2019-2020 Premier League season was hardly conventional, with the coronavirus pandemic forcing teams to play in empty stadiums, the season still managed to be extremely exciting.
After 30 years of bad luck, Liverpool FC finally managed to clinch it and win the coveted Premier League trophy under the management of Jurgen Klopp. Not only did they manage to win for the first time in three decades, they managed to clear the runners up Manchester City by a massive 18 points!
Although they lifted the trophy in front of television screens rather than cheering fans, the moment was an emotional triumph after so many years of disappointment.
The stakes are high this season. Will Liverpool manage to repeat their victory, or was it simply a one-off? Will the powerful combination of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero take Manchester City to the top spot? Will Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, or Tottenham get back in the race and show their worth?
The Bookies’ Favorites
According to the bookies and a BBC forecast, Liverpool FC are the favorites to take the title again this season, with Manchester City very close behind. But could this change? Soccer is rarely predictable; after all, we all remember perpetual underdogs Leicester City coming out of nowhere to win the 2015-2016 season, against odds of 5000 to 1!

Despite a lack of activity during the transfer window (perhaps signaling a confidence in the squad after their win), Liverpool are almost neck-and-neck with Manchester City in the bookies’ predictions for Premier League champions next spring.
Although Liverpool recently suffered a crushing 7-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa (who are nowhere near favorites to win), this seems most likely an unlucky fluke. The chances are, Liverpool will learn a lesson from this and come back fighting with renewed vigor!
With the likes of Mo Salah and Jordan Henderson in the squad, Liverpool have been a side to reckon with for a few years now, and there seems to be no reason to believe that they can’t be in the middle of a long winning streak.
Pep Guardiola’s side are proving to be worthy contenders for Liverpool’s crown. The chances are that these two teams will take the top two spots, but nothing is certain.
Manchester City’s defense has been commonly criticized as a weak spot, but this has been largely down to the injury of star defender Aymeric Laporte last season. This season could be a whole other story!
Behind Liverpool and Manchester City in the bookies’ predictions are Chelsea and Manchester United. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea spent a whopping £128 million ($167 million) this transfer season, and their deep pockets and large investments could well pay off! Manchester United, despite substandard performances in the last couple of seasons, have been roundly tipped to make the top four this season.
The 2020-2021 Premier League season looks to be a very close one indeed!
