Nick Jonas is ready to kick Blake Shelton’s ass … on The Voice.
Nick, along with his famous brothers, Joe and Kevin, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday and made the big announcement that he would be taking Gwen Stefani’s place on the long-running singing competition. Blake Shelton kicked off the announcement in a video, both welcoming Nick and questioning whether he was old enough to be on the show.
“Nick Jonas! How you doing, buddy?” Shelton said in his clip. “I heard that you’re going to be a new coach on The Voice and I wanted to, first of all, say congratulations, I guess. But second of all, I wanted to voice some concerns that I have. I’m going to have to look through the rules because this is my TV show. I’m not even sure if you’re old enough to be a coach on The Voice, but I’m certain that you’re going to get your butt kicked buddy.”
Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, the other two returning coaches for the 18th season of the hit NBC show, also appeared on the welcoming video. Kelly and John went a different direction than the God’s Country singer and both suggested they team up with Nick so they destroy Blake.
Nick seemed okay with the idea of destroying Blake.
“I am so excited about this,” he said. “You’re basically the first people I’ve told, so thank you for being a part of this special moment for me. Just to be clear, Blake, I’m going to kick your ass. I think Kelly’s point about forming an alliance might make sense, and John, I love you, but we need a side conversation to figure some things out.”
Anyone else get the feeling there will be a lot of age jokes on the next season?
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a while to see Nick take on Blake since season 17 is still airing. You can catch the current season on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
