I love me some Miranda Lambert. Like I really, really love Miranda Lambert (in a wholesome, totally non-stalkerish sort of way, of course) and generally when she releases a new song I’m all about that new song. Today, however, I found myself in a strange place … I **gulp**didn’t like Miranda’s newly released song, Mess with My Head.
I know, weird, huh?
It wasn’t that I didn’t like it really, it was more like it just wasn’t speaking to me like most of her other songs have in the past. In fact, I wrote a whole post about needing people to help me appreciate it.
Yes, it was, in fact, messing with my head. Thanks, Miranda!
But …but!!!!… after 30 or so listens, I can finally say that I like it. I’m not loving it just yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there eventually. I really think I’m just a creature of habit and this song was so different that it took some time on repeat for me to finally appreciate it on my own.
Of course, Miranda admits the song is different than anything she’s done so far, so she was probably expecting mixed reactions.
Mess with my Head is out now! This song is a departure from anything that I’ve done before. It has a real rock edge. Part of that comes from my co-writers, @LukeDick and @Wruckestrike, and the other part of that comes from spending time in New York City. Being there has put a new energy into my music and my writing.
Have you ever had a song that you didn’t like at first but that finally grew on you?
