Female Focus Friday: Meet Mother-Daughter Duo Belles & Whistles

Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, Belles & Whistles relies on anything but bells and whistles to stand out in the music industry. This mother-daughter duo, comprised of Jaymie and Kelli Jones, is a down-to-earth pair that channels its country and folk roots and mashes that up with some rock ‘n’ roll for good measure.

Being a part of a family group isn’t new for Jaymie Jones, as she grew up in a sibling quartet with her three sisters. The sisters continued to write together into adulthood, but once their children began to enter the world, the ability to focus on music, rightfully, began to shift into parenting. Though Jaymie resigned herself to becoming a solo artist while she wrote songs from her own heart, her then teenage daughter, Kelli, asked if she could sing backup at a gig.

The rest is history.

“Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to create music,” Kelli explained to NashvilleGab. “I learned from my mom how to write songs when I was 13, and my mom and I have a blast doing music together.”

“It’s been so cool to watch her shine,” Jaymie added. “I’m the setting, she’s the diamond.  I’m so proud of Kelli and the bold young woman she has become.”

Don’t let Jaymie’s modesty fool you. Both ladies shine on their EP Look Up, and you can listen to it via Spotify below. For more on Belles & Whistles, visit the duo’s official website by clicking here.
