While Phillip Phillips may not exactly be country, there’s no denying the crossover success of his rootsy American Idol coronation song “Home.” On top of that, this is a story that’s too sweet not to share.
Last week, Phillips performed “Home” at the wake of a legendary New York Police Department Detective, Steven McDonald. According to McDonald’s son, Conor, “Home” was his father’s favorite song, even comforting him in his final hours.
Without hesitation, Phillips attended McDonald’s wake in Rockville Centre, New York, performing a stirring acoustic rendition of “Home” before segueing into “Amazing Grace.”
