Last night, the pop culture world was shaken when news erupted that Alan Thicke had suddenly passed away following a heart attack. The sixty-nine year-old television and movie star touched many generations, but was most famously known for his role as Dr. Jason Seaver on the 1980s sitcom, Growing Pains.

Like many Generation X’ers, The Voice and Team Blake alum, James David Carter, felt this particular loss a little deeper than most, considering Thicke was a television father who had a hand in raising us all. To pay tribute to the life and career of the beloved actor, Carter recorded an acoustic performance of himself singing the theme song to Growing Pains, “As Long As We Got Each Other.”

In honor of Alan Thicke, we sadly, yet celebratorily, share Carter’s video below. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Thicke family and all those he touched throughout his long and lustrous career.
