Dolly Parton gathered some of her famous friends last night to combine forces and raise money for East Tennessee families who were victims of recent devastating wildfires. The special event aired live from Nashville, featuring artists performing and answering phones accepting donations from fans.
Parton entered the evening with a goal of $13 million (following her promise to donate $1,000 per month to affected families for six months), and reported that the final amount raised was “in the millions.” Among those who gave to the cause were Taylor Swift and Paul Simon ($100,000 each) and the Tennessee Titans ($144,270).
An official amount is expected to be announced in the near future.
