There are few artists who can tell a story with their voices quite like Kelly Clarkson. And while we’ve admittedly never seen Hamilton, we were excited when we heard that Clarkson contributed a song to the Hamilton Mixtape, a collection of re-imagined songs from the Broadway show.
Well, the song has hit the Internet and caused people around the world to ugly cry, including Hamilton-creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s sister.
Oh no @kelly_clarkson made my sister cry! https://t.co/qz3xRQ2sYd

I was NOT emotionally prepared for Kelly Clarkson's "It's Quiet Uptown." #HamiltonMixtape pic.twitter.com/ZnB83M1EYZ

Recording It's Quiet Uptown while being pregnant with my son was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. 😳😩 #HamiltonMixtape

Dear @kelly_clarkson, your 'Quiet Uptown' ranks a full ten on the scale of perfect ugly cries. Thank you (and you, @Lin_Manuel).

Go listen to "It's Quiet Uptown" from #HamiltonMixtape & tell me that @kelly_clarkson isn't one of the best vocalists we have. I dare you.

Don’t believe us? Listen to Clarkson’s take on “It’s Quiet Uptown”:
Spoiler alert, according to those who have seen the show, this song is sung by Hamilton’s sister after the title character’s son is killed in a duel. And…cue the ugly cry.
