After winning the final season of American Idol, Trent Harmon signed to Big Machine Label Group and promised that a “country soul” album was on the way. After about a week of teasing lyrics and a music video on Twitter, Trent played his new single “There’s a Girl” at The Elvis Festival in Tupelo, Mississippi on June 3.

While I don’t know if I’d classify the song as country, it’s got more of a country sound than most of what’s on “country” radio today. I loved Trent on Idol and truly hope he succeeds, but only time will tell if he’ll follow in the footsteps of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson or Candice Glover and Caleb Johnson.
