Scotty McCreery Premieres Emotional New Song “Five More Minutes” at the Opry

Scotty.McCreery

“I wrote this song, probably about a couple of weeks after I lost my grandfather, and we were very close…” Scotty McCreery begins, speaking emotionally from country music’s most famous stage before launching into his new song “Five More Minutes.”

The song epitomizes everything that’s great about country music, immediately recalling the likes of Kenny Chesney’s “Don’t Blink.” The song takes the listener on a journey through all the times in life they may have wanted “just five more minutes.”

While the song hits on all stages of life, it touches, most personally on the death of McCreery’s grandfather. “86, my grandpa said there’s angels in the room/ With all the family gathered ’round, knew the time was coming soon/ With so much left to say I prayed, Lord I ain’t finished/ Just give us five more minutes…”

On Facebook, Scotty described the song as one that “may be my favorite song I’ve written,” and we can see why.
