LeAnn Rimes signs with RCA UK, new single coming later this month

LeAnn Rimes

Congratulations to LeAnn Rimes who took to Twitter this morning with some exciting news …. she’s signed a new record deal with RCA UK.

Now come the questions.

After looking over RCA UK’s extensive list of artists, there’s Chris Brown, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, etc., etc., etc. The list is very distinguished and long, but I don’t see any country singers. Does this mean LeAnn is leaving country music for good? Is she going to be packing up her bikinis and handsome husband and beatin’ feet for the UK? Will she start singing with an accent? Come on, inquiring minds want to know.

There aren’t many details, but we do know that she will be releasing her first single, The Story, on Friday, June 24 (press release below), with an album to follow later this year.

LeAnn famously sued her former label, Curb, in 2003 trying to get out of her longtime contract after turning 18. A judge refused and her contract didn’t end until 2013 after the release of her last studio album, ‘Spitfire’.

After leaving Curb, LeAnn sounded excited about what the future held for her, telling Us Weekly: “Right now, I’m actually ending a record deal that I’ve been in since I was 11, so 20 years at the same label. That ends next month, so, yeah, it’s exciting. I’m trying to lay out the land and figure it all out for the next 10, 20 years of my life.”

Well, no matter what kind of music she’ll be recording, let’s just hope LeAnn gets away from all the drama of the last couple of years and is happy and using that God given musical gift she has.

Here’s the press release:

Hmm I wonder if this will be a cover of the Brandy Carlile song?

Good for her! She’s got an amazing voice, and is a talented live performer. I just recently wrote a piece about how country music’s pendulum has swung all the way to the pop side as it can go and is going to start swinging back towards the traditional sound, and I believe she would be one of the few artists who would benefit from transitioning to mainstream completely ala Amy Grant or on a slightly smaller scale, Taylor Swift. Country fans never let go of a scandal, but MUSIC fans will embrace her with open ears and arms!

Brett Eldredge’s wig game is spot on

There are two types of artists who hit Nashville around CMA Fest time: Those who hide from fans and are only there to perform and those who go out and immerse themselves in all the fun. We clearly know which side Brett Eldredge is on.
