Last night on NBC’s The Voice, Team Christina Aguilera member Alisan Porter tackled a folk/country song when she covered Patty Griffin‘s emotional “Let Him Fly.”
In her reality package prior to her performance, Porter explained that the song touched her personally because it reminded her of a particularly difficult point in her addiction. At the time, she was in a tumultuous relationship and knew she had to let go in order to move forward with her own life. Before the show cut to Porter’s performance, she shared with her coach that her ex ultimately passed away.
Porter’s song choice has been covered several times in the past, including by the Dixie Chicks and Jessica Simpson, but never before has someone taken the breathtaking song and made it quite as gut-wrenching. Pouring her entire mind, body, and soul into her performance, Porter brought tears to the eyes of people across America and caused the coaches to fall more in love with her than ever before. Who knew that was even possible?
