Congratulations are in order for one of country music’s most beloved couples, Joey and Rory Feek, collectively the duo Joey + Rory!
Following multiple award nominations (GRAMMYs and ACMs), the pair is now celebrating its first ever Number 1 album. Hymns That Are Important to Us debuted at the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart and Christian chart, as well as Number 4 on the Billboard 200, having sold 70,000 copies in its first week (68,000 of which were physical album sales).
Hymns That Are Important to Us was recorded last summer while Joey was recovering from surgery related to cervical cancer and is bringing the couple another huge moment to share together as she now undergoes hospice care. The vocals were recorded at home or in hotel rooms, while the instruments were added in a Nashville studio. Rory’s daughter, Heidi, provides harmonies on the record.
At the time the two recorded the album, the always eloquent Rory took to his blog to explain the music on the album.
I think Joey wants to capture the words and music of her childhood. The music that makes this beautiful, tragic, crazy life somehow make sense.
The album is available now online, with a deluxe version for sale at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. One dollar of each sale will go to the Loeys-Dietz Syndrome Foundation in support of the couple’s two-year-old daughter’s (Indiana) best friend, Scout.
