It’s a happy Friday, indeed, when Miranda Lambert surprises us all with a brand new song released to Spotify. “Sweet By and By“, which appears to be on an album entitled Southern Family, is a raw, slow to mid-tempoed tune that honors the important things in life, such as family, honesty, and the value of a lesson learned.
The track speaks to both parents, possibly citing the most important things Miranda was taught growing up, making the song an exceptionally personal one that truly lets fans into the six-time Female Vocalist of the Year’s head and heart. The changing chorus shares:
Daddy (Mama), I have not forgotten lessons learned under the light of a southern starry sky. Family’s the light that guides us, blessed be the ties that bind us. Sweet by and by.
“Sweet By and By” gives Miranda the opportunity to show off her award-winning pipes, stripping away the often obvious edge on her tracks and focusing on emotional and promising words and a truly pleasant voice.

Really like this song- great to hear her going back to a more traditional sound on this one. She wrote it w/ Brent Cobb (he co-wrote Old Shit from her Platinum cd) for the Southern Family cd. Just song & fun Friday surprise!
