Love and Theft‘s “Whiskey on My Breath” took my breath away when I first heard it in November 2014. This song is one of those that you remember exactly where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, and how you reacted when you discovered it and immediately solidifies itself as one of your favorite creations … ever.
This week, Bobby Bones stumbled upon the underrated tune, shining light on a song that was never given a fair chance to change lives, ultimately changing Eric Gunderson and Stephen Barker Liles‘ lives overnight. Sharing the track off Love and Theft’s likewise underrated album of the same name, the nationally syndicated morning show host introduced country music fans to a painfully honest and vulnerable song about addiction and the desire to overcome the illness before coming face to face with Jesus.
Before Bobby Bones began discussing his new discovery, “Whiskey on My Breath” went from outside the Top 200 on iTunes to Number 2. Number 1 is within reach, and when the song reaches that point, it will finally get what it has deserved all along. Better late than never, right?
