American Idol viewers sat on the edge of their seats last night as Jennifer Lopez strung Emily Brooke and fellow contestants along during Hollywood Week, making them believe they were possibly going home after the first round. But, if you saw the clip of Emily Brooke covering Cassadee Pope‘s “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart“, let’s be real — you knew she was safe.
While that moment was talked about all over the Internet, it was another moment that was discussed among people from South Florida. That was the full circle in which Emily has come, as this was not the first time she covered Cassadee in a high pressure situation.
In 2013, Cassadee came home to Wellington, Florida for the holidays. While she was there, a special family friend threw a party to celebrate the hometown star and surround her with friends and family for the first time since her championship run on NBC’s The Voice. Included in the evening was music performed by another hometown singer, Emily Brooke.
Since the release of Cassadee’s platinum debut country single, “Wasting All These Tears“, Emily had been performing the tune, never imagining the day would come when she would sing it for the artist who drove it up the charts into the Top 10. However, on that December night in Florida, Emily gathered herself like a true professional and opened herself up to the intimidation that can come with such a tall task, especially for a fifteen-year-old.
With Cassadee’s heartfelt encouragement and a crowd of eager listeners, Emily foreshadowed what was to come in her career — a continuous uphill climb toward her very own super stardom. Watch the video below and travel back in time on this special Throwback Thursday.
