Gab’s Countdown to Christmas: Lady Antebellum

There are few Christmas songs as instantly recognizable and widely loved as Mariah Carey’s modern classic, “All I Want for Christmas is You.” It’s an iffy one to tackle, but Lady Antebellum breathes new life into it with their subdued rendition of the cheery carol.

Stripped away are the bells and whistles, replaced with an almost somber melody that works surprisingly well. With Lady A’s version, the warm melody allows for the lyrics to express the longing of only wanting one thing for Christmas. Hillary Scott shines as the storyteller here, her voice full of yearning as she pleads “Oh bring my baby to me.” In the words of the American Idol judges, the trio of Lady A makes this version their own.

“All I Want for Christmas if You” is one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs and Lady A gives Mariah a run for her money with this version. Take a listen below!
