There are few country singers as unique and iconic as Dolly Parton, and we’re counting down to Christmas today with her equally unique and iconic “Hard Candy Christmas.”

Unlike most Christmas songs, “Hard Candy Candy” has a somber tone as Dolly declares “I’ll be fine and dandy, Lord it’s like a hard candy Christmas, I’m barely getting through tomorrow, but still I won’t let sorrow bring me way down.”

The country classic was written by Carol Hall for the musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. While Parton shared the spotlight in the play, swapping verses with her co-stars, she took center stage on the film soundtrack, releasing the solo version that became a classic.
