Can you believe that 2015 has already come to an end? It seems like just yesterday we were honoring our favorite albums, songs, and artists of the year, anticipating what was to come from a select few who we predicted would emerge into stardom in the next 365 days.
Well, here we are again, and there are sixteen artists who we have our eyes on for 2016 and expect to be gabbing about here at NashvilleGab quite a bit. These artists have us extremely excited for the progression of the country music genre and we cannot wait to share and celebrate their inevitable successes with them, their fans, and our readers!
Without further ado, NashvilleGab’s 16 Artists to Gab About in 2016 are as follows (in alphabetical order):
Alabama-born and raised Aaron Parker is a 1990s influenced artist who is channeling his youth to bring back traditional country music. With his staple black cowboy hat, an impressive five-track EP and a kind spirit, Aaron should be making waves in 2016.
Brooke Eden has had our attention for years, but it seems as though 2016 will be the year she deservedly captures the hearts of the country music industry and fan base. This gorgeous (inside and out) Red Bow Records artist brings soul, sass, and country girl class to the genre and it all shines through in her debut terrestrial radio single, “Daddy’s Money“. Something tells us that this debut single is just the start of a year to remember in the career of Brooke Eden!
The singing siblings have been bubbling just under mega-stardom since the release of their first single “Rum” and its follow-up, “Stay A Little Longer.” The Maryland-born duo of John and TJ Osborne, who have opened for the likes of Little Big Town and John Pardi, will release their debut album Pawn Shop on January 15th. If “Stay A Little Longer” is any indication, these two are rightfully here to stay.
Drake White is a breath of fresh air in a genre laden with the sameness of bro country. Drake shines with his deep and powerful voice, stellar instrumentation and obvious blue and rock inspirations. The Alabama native shines with a unique sound that is ever-present on his single “It Feels Good.” Think of Drake as a future star somewhere between Chris Stapleton and Zac Brown.
While his alter ego, Earl Dibbles, Jr., is high on our list of those we will be talking about in 2016, it’s Broken Bow Records‘ Granger Smith who truly has our eyes glued to him at the moment. Granger is currently driving his debut single “Backroad Song” up the charts, and we anticipate it will be just the start of his long and lustrous country music journey.
She’s invited you to “take the keys” and pull her back in the past, eventually giving you her finger, but now Leah Turner is back, embracing her newfound freedom as an independent artist, and is sharing even more of herself than ever before. Revisiting her rodeo roots, Leah recently released “Cowboy’s Love” and is ready to conquer the country music industry by being exactly who she is — and we can’t wait to watch it happen!
Born and raised in Nashville with a Grammy Award winning songwriter for a father (Marcus Hummon), Levi Hummon has always had songwriting in his blood. He has written with many of country’s greats, including Shane MacAnally, Josh Osborne, Brandy Clark and Trevor Rosen as he prepares his own album. Recently signed to Big Machine’s Valory Music, Levi is now making the move from writer to artist.
With a magical, musical ear and even more magical fingers that can slay multiple instruments, Lindsay Ell is a standout prodigy in country music. Amazing people with her guitar skills, Stoney Creek Records‘ Lindsay has won over the industry and is steadily working her way to the top of country music lists everywhere. Oh, and “by the way”, she will be on the CMT Next Women of Country Tour with Jennifer Nettles and Brandy Clark in 2016.
In 2015, Lucie Silvas hit the road with Little Big Town and also released one of the year’s best albums, Letters to Ghosts. The British singer-songwriter has been honing her craft for years, writing hits for many UK artists, but has recently gotten Nashville buzzing with her stunning vocals and lyrics. Need a taste? Listen to her chill-inducing cover of Roy Orbison’s “You Got It.”
There are few new country artists who are as buzzed about as Texan born Maren Morris, whose first foray into Nashville was as a songwriter with cuts by Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson. In 2015, Maren released her much-acclaimed EP featuring her first single “My Church.” With her bluesy, soulful style, Maren is easily one of country’s most exciting and promising new female acts. In fact, we vote her “Most Likely to Succeed.”
Rainey Qualley hails from North Carolina and was raised on traditional country music, making the move to Nashville to pursue her dreams of singing professionally. With one of the most unique and diverse voices in the genre, we anticipate that Rainey will be one of few to spearhead a much needed transition from where country is today to where it should be tomorrow.
In 2015, Ryan Kinder brought some testosterone to Jennifer Nettles’ Playing With Fire Tour, which also featured Brandy Clark. The Birmingham, Alabama native signed to Warner Music Nashville and released the single “Tonight,” which is currently getting much attention on SiriusXM’s The Highway as he prepares his debut album.
Cirby, Carli, and Celbi Manchaca, otherwise known as Sister C, is a Texas trio of stunning siblings, sharing musically dynamic DNA. The trio’s debut single “Faint of Heart” has received praise from industry executives, country music fans, and fellow stars, proving that the Manchacas have a lot in store for them in 2016 — and we can’t wait to see what the next year holds!
With a sound that recalls the heyday of 90’s country music combined with quirky lyrics, Tennessee native Tara Thompson is gaining attention for her sassy “Someone to Take Your Place.” Signed to Big Machine Label Group, the singer already has country in her blood, as she’s related to Loretta Lynn. Like Lindsay Ell, Tara will be hitting the road in 2016 as part of the CMT Next Women of Country Tour with Jennifer Nettles and Brandy Clark.
Brandon and Jamelle Fraley, husband and wife duo Two Story Road, officially emerged from their previous roles as background vocalists and musicians to the spotlight at the end of 2015. Their debut self-titled EP quickly entered the Top 15 on iTunes and has received acclaim from country music journalists across the board. With talent as exceptional as these two possess, magnetic personalities, and an already devoted fan base, the stars are aligning for a 2016 that will give their road a necessary place on the country music map!
With a voice that recalls classic country at its finest, William Michael Morgan is a breath of fresh air in a world of “new” country. His first single, the Sam Hunt-penned “I Met a Girl“, is a unique song brought to life by William’s unique delivery. The young Mississippi native is signed to Warner Music Nashville and is definitely one we’re glad to have met in 2015.
