Carrie Underwood has been releasing tracks off her forthcoming album Storyteller over the last week, now sharing the most intimate yet — a musical ode to the two men in her life, her husband Mike Fisher and son Isaiah. “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted” is the fourth song Carrie has shared off the October 23rd release, and this one has fans gripping on to boxes of tissues as the lyrics progress.
Carrie, an artist who is no stranger to a sentimental song that will touch hearts and souls, uses the tune to divulge to her husband and son that they are everything she never knew she was dreaming about, crediting them for filling her holes and making her whole. Dedicating the first verse to her husband, the second verse to her son, and explaining their matching significance in the choruses, Carrie pours herself into this intimate track about realizing that sometimes what matters most are the things you don’t even recognize until they find you.
Listen to the beautiful “What I Never Knew I Always Wanted” below and pre-order Storyteller, releasing this Friday, October 23rd, now to receive advance copies of this track, “Smoke Break”, “Heartbeat” (featuring Sam Hunt), and “Runaway Renegade”.

Very pretty! I heard Carrie say she could probably never perform it live though. Guess it would be very emotional for her. Great song.
