What do you get the guy who probably already has everything he could ever want or need for his birthday? How about a donation to a good cause?
Scotty McCreery turns 22 today and instead of sending him gifts, he is encouraging fans to honor his late fan club president Sharon Eaves, who passed away suddenly on September 25, and support a cause that was near and dear to her heart — St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“I have many blessings in my life and I don’t need ‘things’ to celebrate my birthday,” said McCreery via a press release. “But I miss my friend Sharon, who would have had a birthday just yesterday if she was still with us. I’d love to see my fans honor her and continue her great work with St. Jude.”
Eaves, a music industry veteran and longtime member of St. Jude’s Music Industry Advisory Council, had created the Southern Belles team to participate in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in Nashville on September 26 in McCreery’s honor. The team raised $4,000 by the time of the event, and the donor link remains open through November.
McCreery will host a live Twitter Party this Sunday, Oct. 11 at 10:09 PM/ET (for his birthdate 10-09) for 22 minutes (in recognition of being 22) where he will chat with fans. The ACM and CMT Award winner will also share stories from his birthday celebration, a two-day trip with his best friends to play golf and support North Carolina State in their football game against Virginia Tech.
Again, fans can donate for Scotty in Sharon’s honor at walkrun.stjude.org/southernbelle.
