Cancer Surviving Garth Brooks Fan Will Not Miss the Dance

It was less than a year ago when Dustin Persson was en route to a Garth Brooks show in Minneapolis, Minnesota. However, Dustin wouldn’t make it to Garth’s concert that night, as a car accident stopped the longtime fan in his tracks.

While most would view a car accident at this time an unbelievably low point, the event actually set the tone for the next several months of Dustin’s life. See, it wasn’t a typical wreck in Dustin’s situation; instead, it was a seizure that caused him to crash his car. This moment led doctors to discover a tumor in Dustin’s brain, resulting in surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.

Dustin told CBS DFW:

I was so looking forward to it, you know it was going to be a ten o’clock show, and middle of the day I was in an accident and found out I had a brain tumor.

As Dustin was undergoing extensive treatments following his surgery, a relative reached out to Garth to share his fan’s story with him.

I go down and I get this gift and I open it, and it’s a photo of Garth Brooks saying, “Dustin, God bless you, pal.” Oh, God it was incredible. I’ve been a Garth fan since I’ve been nine or 10 years old, and it just made me feel so good.

Dustin, whose last scan came back clean, has been finished with treatment for the past six months and will not be missing the artist who has taken the art of people loving people to the next level again. In fact, Dustin’s parents made sure their son would be a Garth’s show and are sending him and his wife to the Dallas stop to celebrate his successful battle.

I can’t even tell you how excited I’m going to be to be there. I think it just makes you appreciate every day going forward, and yeah, life’s good.

We can’t wait to hear how Dustin’s experience is at Garth Brooks’ World Tour, and we wish him continued health and wellness moving forward. We are so excited for Dustin that he will not have to miss this dance!
