Blake Shelton Says He’s Had a “Weird Year”

Blake Shelton headed to Vegas this weekend, appearing as a part of the iHeartRadioMusic Festival. He spoke to reporters prior to his set, summing up his year to PEOPLE in one word: weird. “It’s been a weird year, but at least I got my songs coming out.”

While the “weird” was largely due to his divorce from wife Miranda Lambert, the Voice judge also was a bit of a fish out of water at this weekend’s festivities. With the exception of Kenny Chesney (who performed on Friday night), Shelton was the lone country act on Saturday’s lineup surrounded by performers ranging Nick Jonas, Puff Daddy/P. Diddy and J.Lo.

According to PEOPLE, it was the latter who intimidated Shelton the most:

They told me I was playing this iHeart music festival and I thought, ‘That’s pretty cool. I’ll go do that. That would be fun, right?’ ” he told the crowd. “I never actually know what I’m doing until I get here and I’m like, backstage doing some interview and I’m like, ‘Who’s that on stage?’ That’s J. Lo. What the eff? What am I doing here?

And as we’d expect with Blake, when he’s nervous, he only has one solution:

So then, I just want y’all to know, I got nervous and I’m still nervous right now, and when I get nervous I tend to drink a little bit, okay,” he said, raising a red solo cup. “I’m just being honest with you.

It’s alright Blake, we’d be nervous around J. Lo as well!
