For a song called John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16, there sure is a lack of all three things in Keith Urban’s new video for the song.
Don’t worry, though, the lack of Johns in the video is actually on purpose. He tells People.com that he didn’t want to do the obvious and instead wanted people to use their imaginations when watching the video.
“We didn’t want it to be 100 percent literal about every lyric. That was the most important thing for me,” says Urban. “So it became more about playing, more performance based. I like everybody to be able to paint their own picture of things. There’s sort of more random imagery and so forth of certain things that relate to the song without being so specific.”
Apart from the lack of Johns, what do you think of the long and narrow look of the video? When the dark bars around the video disappear, it reminds me of a vertical video that people like to gripe about (watch this cute video for explanation), but on its side. That probably makes no sense whatsoever. Meh, maybe you’ll know what I’m talking about after watching it.
