It was less than a year ago (September 11, 2014) when Cassadee Pope performed Coldplay‘s gut-wrenching song “Fix You” at Irving Plaza in New York as a tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on American soil.
Opening with an a cappella verse of the emotional ballad that can stop a music lover … or anybody with a pulse … dead in his/her tracks, Cassadee prepared the crowd for four of the best minutes of their lives. As her band chimed in, the audience also joined and helped Cassadee pay homage to the victims of the 9/11 tragedy by way of one of the deepest, most tear-inducing songs to ever be written.
Tonight, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance celebrated its ten year anniversary and, if you are a fan of the show, you know that one of the most memorable dances over the years was to “Fix You,” choreographed by Emmy winner Travis Wall and danced by Robert and Allison. As I watched Robert and Allison return for an encore performance years after the debut of the dance, I was reminded of Cassadee’s rendition of Coldplay’s magical tune. With all the unfortunate “news” circulating through country music this week, it seemed fitting to share this under-appreciated and under-viewed spectacular performance that offers words of support and comfort at a time of need.
Watch Cassadee perform “Fix You” below, and if you are a fan of dance, stay a bit longer and watch the original Season 7 So You Think You Can Dance performance that moved America to tears.
