It wasn’t too long ago when country artists like Chely Wright, Ty Herndon, and Billy Gilman stepped out, shared personal parts of their lives with the world, and were celebrated for doing so. What is unfortunate about their announcements is that they even had to make them. I don’t recall a time when anybody ever had to take a public stance to announce heterosexuality, do you?
Recognizing how archaic the unnecessary dividing line is, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of marriage equality today in a 5-4 decision. As of today, June 26, 2015, Americans are free to marry whomever they want in all fifty states of the United States of America; and if that isn’t cause for a tremendous YEEHAW, I don’t know what is.
Country music artists have stepped up to share their excitement for those most deeply affected by this ruling that brings us one more step toward a world filled with love, rid of hate, and a country that truly is the home of the free, with liberty and justice for all. Those of us here at NashvilleGab cheer alongside our country music favorites and memorialize today as a tremendously historical date, indeed.
Without further ado, here are some of our favorite celebratory tweets regarding marriage equality in the United States.
