History was made yesterday in the United States of America with the legalization of gay marriage. Now, marriage can simply be called “marriage” without any descriptor preceding the word. Many artists spoke out, sharing their support for those most deeply affected by the Supreme Court decision, and one of those who was cheering from the rooftops was the girl who has always encouraged others to follow their arrows, Kacey Musgraves.
Yesterday, Kacey performed a “Tiny Desk Concert” with NPR Music, singing four songs off her new album, Pageant Material. With the SCOTUS news so fresh in Kacey’s mind, she explained to the audience that she couldn’t resist singing “Follow Your Arrow,” even though “now that it’s all legal, I don’t have anything to sing about.”
Kacey then proceeded to perform her inspirational song about accepting who you are, loving yourself, and doing what feels right for you. Whether the message regarding same sex marriage is obsolete or not, the overall encompassing message of “Follow Your Arrow” is one that will never go out of style.
Preach on, Kacey. You are just the kind of encouragement people of all ages, genders, races, and sexual orientations need in today’s society.
