If you live in Nashville, I have a task for you. Head to whatever bank it is that Jake Owen uses and find his favorite bank teller. Then give her a big, giant, enormous hug because she’s the reason we have that beautiful, beautiful man in our life.

Okay, I admit that the task would probably be harder than it sounds considering I don’t know which bank he uses and I don’t know the bank teller’s name, but what fun would it be if I told you those minor details?

Anyway, back to why you’re hugging a mystery teller from a mystery Nashville bank. Jake tells Glamour magazine in a new interview that it was the bank teller who helped him get discovered.

“I was 23. I didn’t have a lot of money, maybe under $1,000, but enough to pay for my first month’s rent. I had a little money from playing acoustic gigs that I got paid tips. More than just putting money away in a bank, I wanted to start a relationship with people in town,” Jake tells Glamour.

So what better place to start a relationship around town than where all the money’s at? Jake headed down to the bank and got the ball rolling … on his checking account AND his career.

“I started a bank account and figured why not go [to the bank] on Music Row that deals with other musicians and music-industry people, so when they ask me why I’m in town and I say, “To get something going,” maybe she knows someone that can help me, and that’s exactly what happened. She asked me what I did, and I told her, and she said, “I’d love to hear your music,” so I gave it to her. Next thing I know, I got a call from someone. It was weird because I literally played that scenario out in my mind. By no means was I being boisterous or cocky, but you do have to believe in yourself and set out with a goal or you might not ever fulfill it. So she helped me out a lot, and that’s how it all started.”

The best part of the story is the fact that Jake has stayed loyal to that teller, saying that she’s still his banker and when she moved to a different bank so did he.

Somebody better give that mystery lady a big fat bonus.
