From now on when I say Halestorm you say bad ass. Got it? K. Good. Last night(4/22) Lzzy Hale(Notice the no “i”) and her band kicked off their tour in Nashville at the Ryman. In case you didn’t know rock music inside Country Music’s Mother Church almost has this forbidden fruit vibe to it and made it that much more fun.
If Lzzy Hale is kind of ringing a bell but you can’t quite put your finger on it…it’s because she was the vocal freak that took he stage with Eric Church at the CMA’s to join him for a duet on the song ‘That Damn Rock N Roll.’ Her band continued to join Eric on his tour.
In true rockstar fashion Lzzy started the show with a really intense opening monologue that included saying she was going to impregnate the mother church. So, please check back in 9 months to see if I popped. This show was more than worth going in so many ways. The intense energy was just a bonus from the sheer talent that engulfed the stage. Between Lzzy’s range of vocal enchantment to the wicked cool guitar riffs and the most amazing drummer we’ve maybe ever seen, there wasn’t a moment we weren’t left in complete awe. This band is a taste of what it feels like to be a rock goddess…if only for a night.
The band clearly had a polished rock vibe to them but when you’re a GRAMMY® Award-winning hard rock band that had some serious success with your 2012’s blockbuster “THE STRANGE CASE OF…” album, it isn’t exactly a surprise. But what was a surprise was hearing how truly emotive and thought provoking songs off their recent album release of “INTO THE WILD LIFE.” were.
Recorded last year in Nashville with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Eric Church) at the helm, “INTO THE WILD LIFE” is highlighted by the historic new single, “Apocalyptic.” The track recently ascended to the top at Active Rock radio outlets nationwide in an astounding 9 weeks – the first time a female-fronted band has scored #1 hits at the format three times as well as the first to have #1 songs from two consecutive albums. Furthermore, “Apocalyptic” has hit #1 at Mainstream Rock radio, marking Halestorm as the fourth-ever female-led act to top the format more than once. As if that weren’t enough, the song’s electrifying companion video has drawn close to 1.5 million individual views thus far at Halestorm’s official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PXkCAiV0Ww.
All in all the show left me with three things: 1)wanting to get a tattoo 2) wanting to be a drummer and 3) wanting to be a Halestorm fan for life.
