Eric Church pledges allegiance to the Hag and raises ’em up with Keith Urban at ACMs

50th Academy Of Country Music Awards - Show

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the 50th Annual ACM Awards were last night, and Eric Church and Keith Urban collaborated for a killer start to the show that included two brilliantly-segued performances. They opened with Eric’s song ‘Pledge Allegiance To The Hag’ from his debut album ‘Sinners Like Me’ (as some kind of tribute to Merle, I guess, since he didn’t seem to be there and he didn’t get a Milestone award). This was pretty epic in itself since the song was never even a single, just a deep album cut, but it’s a favorite at Eric’s live shows and was perfect for the occasion, with Keith joining him on lead guitar. Then, as Eric took to a mini-stage for a more acoustic-orientated verse and final chorus, Keith ran off to the other stage set up in the AT&T Stadium, launching into ‘Raise ‘Em Up’ while Eric came to join him. The song is Keith’s latest single and is already a hit at radio, and it appropriately features Eric as a duet partner.

The whole crowd was totally into it and it was a great way to join traditional and modern fans for a big sing-a-long! You can check it out in the video below. Skip to the 1:40 mark if you don’t care for the show’s intro VT and Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan yelling… a lot.
