Cole Swindell’s CMA Awards nomination story almost turned into a compromising situation

Cole Swindell

While most stars probably have interesting stories about finding out they've been nominated for an award, Cole Swindell's nomination story probably involves a little more almost-nudity than most.

At least I assume so.

Cole appeared on Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton not long after finding out he had been nominated for a CMA New Artist award, and let's just say the story of how he found out he had been nominated probably made later neighbor relations pretty interesting.

What were you doing when you got the news?

Cole: I haven’t had a chance to tell this story yet, so this is perfect. I was at home, and hadn’t heard much about it from my team, because you’re not expecting it. So that morning, I think I knew they were announcing them, and I thought they’d done it earlier on Good Morning America. So I get out of the shower later that morning, and I had 3 or 4 missed calls from my manager, and I thought it was bad news! She’s like, ‘I need you right now!’ I call her right back, and I’m freaking out. Then she tells me I’m nominated for a CMA Award. Then I’m really freaking out! So I run outside, on the phone, towel, neighbor comes out, I text her and say ‘Sorry I’m a little excited,’ I told her why, and it was all good. It’s no joke!

You ran outside in a towel?

Cole: Yeah, I pace when I’m on the phone, and that was the only place I could go, the neighbor comes out, and I had to move it back in. I texted her. She called back, ‘Oh my gosh you got nominated?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ So she understood.

Pics or it didn't happen. Please, for the love of all that's holy, pics or it didn't happen!

Ha! I kid. I kid.

Here's Cole telling his entertaining shower tale.

The 48th annual CMA Awards air this Wednesday, November 5th, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
