Emily West / Sarah Darling
It always seems a little strange to me to see someone whose name I'm already aware of heading to a television show to compete. It's not that it's a bad thing and I don't fault them for trying whatever it takes to make it, it just seems an unusual way to go once you've already had some success in Nashville.
This week two singers that I've previously covered here on NashvilleGab are giving two different competitions a whirl.
The first is Emily West. Emily was at one time signed to Capitol Records Nashville and had two songs hit the country charts – Rocks in Your Shoes and a duet with Keith Urban called Blue Sky. Now she's competing on America's Got Talent and made her debut last week with a really quick rendition of Sea of Love. Luckily she made it through to the next round.
Next up giving a singing competition a try is Sarah Darling who will be performing during tonight's premiere of ABC’s hotly-anticipated new series, “Rising Star,” Sunday, June 22, (9:00-11:00 p.m. ET; check local listings) on the ABC Television Network. This is the new competition that features Brad Paisley as one of the judges.
“I am so excited to be a contestant on RISING STAR!!!,” Sarah says in a release. “It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to perform before the entire country LIVE! The fans at home can make a difference for me, and I hope they all download the Rising Star app and raise the wall for me!”
What do you guys think? Are T.V. competitions a good way for people who have already made a name for themselves in Nashville to continue their career or does it seem a step down?
